You find people swearing by Allah in Islamic countries.
Personally, I like to swear by the Valar from Lord of the Rings, it really gets people's attention, LOL. Or sometimes by the Norse gods, that always makes things interesting.
I'm a Christain so I don't swear by Jesus or Jehovah in casual conversation.

You don't get around much. In other societies, other dieties show up in the swear words.
In the middle east, I was told that Allah would damn me when I cut off a car. In Greece, Zeus was going to avenge my wrongdoings.
In America, Jesus is misused because christian-based society generally believes in him. Why would you feel threatened if you were told you'd be damned by Odin? (I know a few Norsemen that would)

I love that question...it is very very easy...it is because Jesus Christ is so merciful...His loving kindness endures forever..In my country where I am from..There is a god of iron..if u swear by it and you know in ur heart that U are telling lies you will be struck down by thunder immediately...It is bcos they know that all other gods are not merciful..U get struck immediately if you lie in their name..How many people have died bcos the lied in God's name? But haven't you heard of people being struck down when they swear by certain deities?Have a thought and you will see some reason in what I just told you...

The answer is, basically, it is better to use than an actual swear-word. Less offensive. You can actually say it on TV.

Awesome question!! I've wondered about that myself. I think it has something to do with the fact that people know down deep that Jesus is real and this is their rebellion.
James 2:10 The Devils also believe...

The 0.33 of the ten Commandments has God pointing out, "You shall no longer misuse the call of the Lord" (Exodus 20:7). Older variations say ' soak up ineffective' for 'misuse'. This deals with the way we talk approximately God, yet additionally with our way of life. The Israelites blasphemed the call of their God whilst they lived and behaved in a manner that introduced ridicule to him. See Leviticus 24:11 for an Israelite employing God's call with a curse - he grew to become into positioned to dying. The word you employ might desire to be attaching God's call to a curse. We additionally blaspheme God if we characteristic God's artwork to the artwork of devil, as Christ made sparkling in Matthew 12:24-36. If we use God's call with regard to faux worship, careless worship, to assist a lie, to mock God, as an idle oath, in grievance and unbelief, or in mishandling the Bible, we violate this 0.33 Commandment. purely as quickly as we savour purely who God, our writer, quite is, do we take care on no account to invoke His call in any careless or disrespectful way.
