No, we don't really need religion. When laws weren't written down like they are today, and morals weren't generally standard throughout our society, we did need religion to keep things from getting out of hand, but now, we have learned that murder and rape and other crimes are just not for the good of society, we don't need religion to tell us right from wrong any more. And, yes, religion IS a form of control, just like laws are a form of control.

yes we need religion yes it's a form of control, i havn't heard anything bad about the teachings it all sounds good to me ,some laws are based on religion , what if there were no laws or religion , this world would be a crazy place to live , people would be killing one another just because they can , i wouldn.t want to live in a world like that and religion give meaning and hope to your life , i want everlasting life y wouldn't u?

I don't think we need religion. I don't practice it. My parents say I'm catholic, but I just say I'm myself. I don't know what I believe, and I don't go to church, and I don't live in the way of anyone or anything. I don't see why we have religion. In a way it is a form of control because you are told that you have to believe this and that.

Religion is a personal choice. Everyone has the right to find what they need to be fulfilled. And some people find fulfillment in religion. Also religions are exceedingly varied. Far more than most realize. A religion only needs one believer to be valid.

Yes, it is a form of control, but I think the world would be total chaos without some general rules of conduct. Control, but necessary control.

Human beings are genetically "hard wired" to believe in God...just do a Google (or Yahoo...lol) search on "the god gene." I believe that we are hardwired this way purposefully.
Religion doesn't have to be about control...it can also be about self-reflection, self-analysis, prioritizing, etc. Whether you like it or not, most of the "commandments" are there for your personal well-being, and the well-being of your neighbors and community. Unfortunately, human sinfullness has been responsible for horrible atrocities in the name of religion. I doubt Jesus would have approved of witch-burning or the Crusades.
Religion should be about freedom...freedom from anxieties and the things we fear in the world. Religion should bring us comfort.

Religion is about control, recruitment and profit. There's absolutely no reason why people can't worship freely on their own without the support of a church or organization. Why else do you think all these Christian/Catholic private schools slap a massive tuition fee on the parents of their little Christian kids? It's all about money.

People need religion, because they need something to have hope in. Most Christians aare happy because they don't have to be afraid to die, because they think they will go to heaven and be with Jesus and the people that have died before them. And they also are happy because they can pray and feel better about themselves for doing bad things. It gives relief. It kind of takes away from reality, but it gives people faith in miracles and other things.....

It should be a moral guideline, and some people truly need that moral guide in their lives. For some people religion is very much needed. For some it is not.
