Felix is only a nickname when given to someone who's legal name is different.

If you went to my high school back in the 70s, then you called someone a Felix if he was a pain in the neck clean freak (sorry Mr. Jennings...but that was you).

Otherwise, Felix is a legitimate name that's been used for centuries and centuries throughout Europe. There's even a St. Felix whose feast day is in November. The Felician nuns took their order's name from him.
