If you're going to do it at all, please don't do it yourself. It really hurts your dog, and they need some kind of general anesthetic. Call your vet and maybe he can give you some affordable options. However, if your dog gets hurt and sees you doing it, he may lose all trust in you, and that is VERY hard to get back.

You should NOT do this on your own. If your funds are "tight" as you mention, how will you pay for vet bills when the dog gets infected or doesn't stop bleeding??? You cannot get pain meds for a dog over the counter and cannot give it human OTC meds. ANY type of surgery a dog has must be done by a VET. This is common sense.

If a friend or family member wanted plastic surgery and their funds were "tight", would you do it for them??? Same principle...docking a dogs ears is not a necessary procedure, yet it needs to done by a licensed vet who knows how to properly do it and can anestetize the dog properly for the procedure. Imagine having your earlobes cut off by someone without the proper medication or training and how painful that would be...same exact thing you are thinking of doing for the dog. I would imagine it wouldn't be pleasant.

I hope you're joking?!?! The only one who can legally crop a dog's ears is a veterinarian - doing it yourself is a felony. Most vets won't do it anymore, as it is expensive and painful elective surgery. England has banned it completely. Trying to do it yourself is brutally cruel and can lead to death from blood loss or infection. It also leads to nasty fly bites if the dog is left outside much. The weeks of taping needed to get them to stand up can be a nightmare, leading to painful sores and a dog that sees you as a source of pain. Most dogs look just fine with their ears natural - the only reason to crop them is for the show ring. A professional dog show handler may be able to direct you to a vet who can do the best job - properly matching the size and shape to the dog's build.. Call some local breeders and ask who they use. Find them on www.akc.org

If you want them cropped because you're fighting the dog, then you're looking at multiple counts of animal cruelty and possibly jail time. http://www.aspca.org/site/pageserver

It is illegal in most states to do this yourself.Cropping ears in general is a cruel practice, but when done by a vet is more humane.People try to do this themselves and it turns out horrible. There is a high rate for infection and a lot of people hit nerves in the ear and ruin it,So much that the ear often folds over and no amount of cropping will get it to stand straight..Sometimes they even have to be removed due to damage sustained by pet owners doing this themselves.

.If you are going to do this ,please let you vet do it ,for you dog's sake.It might be pricey but so would a vet bill to fix a mistake that you made.Or being arrested for animal cruelty, which in some states is a felony.

GO TO A VET! you cannot perform surgery on your own dog. This is a very bloody surgery...ears are notorious for bleeding. When done at a vet a cauderizer is used to keep the bleeding down. No dog will sit still for this surgery without being anesthetized. It is painful, and requires quite a bit of care afterwards...lots of bandages and re-bandaging. If you really can't afford the surgery at a vets....then DON'T DO IT. ear cropping is just for looks anyway..it is not required! Just let your dogs ears stay the way they are.

Call your vet. Do not do this yourself. People have done and butchered their dogs in the process, so do not waste your time and money. Call your vet and ask how long you have to save up the money to do this if you must. The dog's ears do not have to be cropped at all, he will just have a puppy look into adulthood.

Again, talk to your vet, ask how much it will cost and how long you have to be able to do it. Ask your vet's advice on if this is even necessary. Definitely leave this to the professionals.

Why didnt you have those ears cropped before the dog turned 2 days old? Do you know what type of pain this dog will be in IF you decide to do it yourself? Did you also know unless you have it done professionally, you could be fined for cruety to animals? Tell me where your at then I can report you.

DO NOT DO IT!!! If you are not a vet you do not know how to do it correctly. They have to be done when they are puppies for one thing and if you do not cut exactly they will not stand up. And every dog has to have their ears done differently because of their size. To tall they will not stand up . Too short they look retarded to many variables for a regular person to do that is why only vets do it. If you love your dog take him to the vet. Have you called to see if they will set up a pmt plan. Do you even know how much it cost. If you do it you are not a good pet owner! Besides you cannot get the medicine you need because your are not a doctor.

Do NOT crop your dog's ears yourself! In fact, don't crop them at all, it's cruel and unnecessary.

If you ABSOLUTELY MUST crop your dog's ears, take it to the vet. They will do it properly, with anaesthetic, and give you the proper medications to ease the pain and prevent infection. Trying to do it at home will cost you more in the long run, because you'll have to have him treated for the damage you've done - and that assumes that the ASPCA doesn't have you arrested for animal cruelty and take the dog away from you.

If you can afford to go on vacation, then you can afford to care for your dog properly.

This is a proceedure for an experinced vet. The doctor I work for refuses to do a few breeds, because he doesn't feel like he is artistic enough to do them. Choose a vet who crops quite a few of the specific breed. This is something not just any vet can do, so how do you think that you can do it?

I wouldn't recomend doing it yourself. The vet puts the dog under anesthesia. And you could make it crooked or something. It can also be very unsterile and you may cause an unesscary infection. If I were you I would go to the vet. Save the money it may cost you more in the longrun if you were to do it yourself and don't know what you are doing
