My wife is very allergic to onions.. so, we have no onions in the house.. we don't cook anything that has onions... and usually nothing with onion powder unless it's quite low on the ingrediants list... when we go to friends places we ask them not to have onions in anything.... some people might think that rude but the option is there.. if they're going to have onions on something or in something.... we don't go.. it's that simple.
She gets massive headaches, sometimes migraines... she starts vomitting almost instantly...she gets dizzy as well. If she ingests them, these things get worse and she has to go to hospital.
We also check restaurants and tell them about the allergy and ask them to check ingredients.. some restaurants are really good about it... others we've had issues with and have gone so far as to threaten them with lawsuits if they don't change their practices of dealing with allergy issues. We have had letters from many restaurant head offices thanking us for contacting them because it's forced them to change the staff training policies.. the last thing they need is somebody dying due to their negligence because they didn't take an allergy seriously.
Be careful.... check labels and menus... ask family and friends not to have onions in the house when you're there. I don't think it's too much to ask.
