No offense...but who gives someone a puppy as a wedding gift?? You can look around local garage sales for things like that...But if you are going to be gone for a month...I would suggest someone dog-sit for you. You dont want your dog to get lonely and start to eat your sofa out of boredom!! Then they can get fresh food and water everyday.

If you think a watering device is expensive, you're in for a lot of surprises! Sounds like you are leaving the pup at home & someone will come by to check on it (I hope)? The cost of a watering dish is nothing compared to the amount of damage a bored puppy can do. If you plan to crate it & leave it for a month w/ friends checking in on it, that's just cruel. Plus, if you have neighbors, they're not going to be happy when they hear howling & barking for a month.
I strongly suggest placing the pup in a home before it's cute wears off. There are tons of expenses associated with being a responsible owner. There are will be a series of vaccines, spay/neuter, food, leashes, obedience classes, bording (hopefully) while you're in Europe for a month. That's if you are one of the lucky few who make it through the 1st year without unexpected vet visits. I can't tell you how many times I had my puppy at the vet for random things. A cat scratch across the cornea, a snake bite on the foot, a broken toe from playing that reguired surgery. Could I have let those things slide? Sure, but what kind of person would let their little friend suffer? Please consider the fact that you didn't plan for this dog & it might not fit into your lifestyle. Animals should never be given as a gift unless it's discussed before hand. It's an awful situation to put someone in. I wish you the best in making a hard decision.

An extremely dumb wedding gift. Animals do not make good gifts for any occasion, but a wedding???
You are not planning on leaving the puppy alone all this time are you? Those watering and feeding devices ARE expensive and I'm not sure they're all that reliable.
You better find a sitter for the time you're gone. You know what?
I think the person that had the glorious idea to give you the puppy should HAVE to take the puppy for the whole month. Sound fair to you?
Anyway, Congrats on your nuptials and I hope you enjoy Europe. There are LOTS of really nice places over there.

Wow. Your friend is seriously DAFT and irresponsible. You should find your new gift a home immediately while he's still an adorable and adoptable puppy.

When and if you decide to get a dog, it should be because it's well-thought-out and researched decision, and you've chosen the right breed and dog for your lifestyle.

DON'T feel obligated or guilty to keep this animal. No matter now well-intended the gesture was or how cute the pup is. Just remember that this is a committment that may last 15-18 years (my dog is now 14!) and it's a committment you need to be informed about and prepared for, before you make it.

I also don't think it's the best note on which to start a new life together (you want to make decisions together, not let others make them for you).

Good luck and have a great trip to Europe!

You can't leave a puppy alone for a month, no matter what kind of feeding and watering device you get! WHat if the water tips over? THe puppy will die! If it's in the house, the house will be destroyed, and there will be sh!t all over the place. If outside, that is cruel. If the temperature gets really hot, the puppy will die!

You have to put it in a kennel or have a friend take care of it!

OMG! Who the heck gives a puppy to someone as a wedding present! You should get your stuff from either a Petco or Wal-Mart, or Pet Smart, or whatever is in your area. If you belong to UPROMISE, all those places give you back a % of your pet purchases towards your kids' future college educations.
If you're really that hard-up for cash, put a "Wanted" ad in your local newspaper. Like, Needed: puppy crate. Price negociable. Something like that. Hopefully you will hear from someone who has extra "junk" lying around that would be useful to your puppy.

It sounds as though you're gonna put your dog in a cage with an auto feeder for a month... please tell me you have a friend or family member who's taking care of this puppy? Best of luck to you!

1) You cannot leave your dog home alone for a month while in europe. This is considered abandonment and you can have animal cruely charges pressed against you for this depending on local laws. Also what did you plan on doing with the feces and urine that were in your home while you were gone??? You need to take it to a boarder or have someone dog sit.

2) A rusty bowl may be ok for you, but it isn't for the dog. Do you want to eat or drink from rusty utensils and bowls? Neither does your dog. Not to mention drinking rusty water can cause SERIOUS illness to the dog.

If you don't want to properly care for the pet, i suggest you turn it over to a local rescue group. You don't seem to have the money for a pet and pets are very expensive. And not properly caring for your pet can cause you legal problems as there are certain things you must provide for a pet such as CLEAN (RUST-FREE) drinking water and proper vet care (and not doing it yourself as mentioned in another post).

well try any pet store for pet supplies and suggust that u have someone come and feed the puppy....since it is little and will be in a cage...it will use the bathroom in the cage and then sleep in it......plus the puppy will need to play and have excerize outside and try to get a cage without rust...the puppy will probaly be chewing on the bars and leaving the puppy in a cage for A MONTH that is CRUEL WRONG and SICK..and if people in ur neighbor find out they can call the pound or the police and they can take the puppy away

being gone for an entire month is probably a little long to leave the dog by itself in a cage with water and food...a weekend get-away I can see but a month your dog will go nuts. I highly recommend finding a place to board your dog. They will give your dog attention, feed it, water it, walk it, let it have play time. Look for a place that has a good rep!!! Or maybe you have family or friends that might dog sit??? That is what we do these days!!!

Walmart!! Actually you might want to ask a friend to watch the puppy while you're gone (or take it to a kennel). A month is a long time to leave a puppy in a cage with no exercise. Perhaps the thoughtful person who gave you the puppy would be willing to watch over the puppy while you're in Europe.

Honey, I think it is the wrong time for you to be trying out a puppy. He won't even know you if you plan on leaving him with someone for the month. It is not a great idea to keep in in a cage and have someone come in to feed and water him. I think the person who gave him too you should have to take care of him until you get home from your honeymoon.
