Do they understand that most concepts in science are considered theories? This is because only mathematical formulas can be proven true. The same cannot be said for ideas. The idea of gravity is a theory as well, but I don't see theists disputing it very often. Perhaps they are confusing theory with hypothesis. Again, is this just a lack of formal education, lack of curriculum in public schools, or something more sinister like religion blinding people to the facts?

worx 101: It is the theory of gravity, and it is far from complete. You shouldn't lie about things you obviously know very little about. There are laws of thermodynamics (they can be quantified and proven 100% true, mathematically).

Oh here we go again, the eternal war between religion and science. The reason people say it's a theory, it really is a theory. Thesists don't dispute the law of gravity often because it doesn't have much religious baggage to it. If evolution is true, people question is God even true? Is there a God. People don't want to believe there's nothing out there but ourselves and they reject the idea of evolution entirely. Religion may try to conceal certain facts from its people, but they can't blind it out entirely. Whether you believe in evolution or the natural way of the Bible, that's your choice. Science is just another way, like religion, of attempting to explain life and why we're here.

Do you understand what a theory is? But that is not the question here. Gravity is a proven fact, there is no need to dispute something that has been decided on long ago. And is there any religion saying no its not gravity it is god holding us to the earth with his thumb? No there isn't but evelution is purely on ideas because all they have is an idea or a theory. But if you go by what religion tells you, all you have is faith. And since scientists cannot prove we descended from apes and religion cannot bring god down to prove he is real, evelution is going to remain a highly fought battle. Until one side can prove its right and true.

Called the Law of Gravity.... because it has been demonstrated and proven true... soemthing remains a theory until it is proven beyond an idea. Of coz science is full of theories, because humans only barely understand the world around us.

In another 20 years, i bet a good 70% of those theories will have changed to other ones.

Anytime a theory is proposed, there is a process that must occur to prove it (thus making it a "law"). Certain scientific priniciples are easy to prove, so they become laws easily. But for some ideas, like evolution, it is difficult to prove because there are a lot of factors that must be considered, and they take place over very long periods of time.

But know this, the theory of evolution is much more solidly based on actual facts than the Christian "theory" of creationism.

Theory=not a proven fact. I think that the Big Bang Theory is science's explanation of what happened when God created the heavens and earth.

There are theories and there are laws. Gravity is not a theory; it's a law. They have never found the missing link to prove man came from apes. While natural selection is almost a given that doesn't need proof, it doesn't mean we came from apes.
I guess your school didn't teach you about Newton's Three Laws.

It is fear that science might eventually cancel out our ancient faith.
Of course, that is just silly. When we learned that the world wasn't actually flat, it didn't stop God from being real. When we discovered that the earth was not the center of the solar system, our faith still thrived. No scientific discovery can threaten a person's faith in God, unless that faith is vain, surface posing.
In my humble opinion, God and science could not possibly be in conflict. God would know more about science than the most educated person in the world, since He invented it, and as far as I know, He's not telling us how to create universes...which is probably just as well.

You are in dispute with at least half of the scientific community.
Gravity is a law, not theory. Most of what you believe is conjecture. If we examine what you base your 'opinion' on, we find you have no real basis at all to spout your hatred toward God. You are just anti-Christ that's all.

They mean it has not been proven, ie it is just like religion. They were even asking for religion to be taught in the science classes. But what do you expect? They have no idea what science is or how it works and there is no point discussing anything with them. Their minds are impervious to logic.

Many use this to somehow discredit the validity that gave it 'theory' status in the first place. Theories are ideas with a substantial amount of evidence.

The point of it just being a theory is that when scientists say you can't prove the creaton theory, science can't exactly prove evoloution either. Most people realize what a theory is.
