It would actually be a hypothesis because it cannot/ has not been tested. It also has no supporting evidence. That is where faith comes into play.

The Christian creation myth could be considered a theory the same way that the Native American Creation Egg myth is a theory, or the floating lotus Egyptian creation myth is a theory. The fact is that the Christian creation myth can be shown to haven descended from a number of other creation myths. There is no more reason to believe the modern Christian version than any of those.
Science, on the other hand, has facts and evidence to support theories such as the Big Bang. If you want to distort the wording of the Bible to support the Big Bang theory, then I guess you could still call the Christian creation myth a theory.

actually that is incorrect...
some definitions for you
# Theory a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world; an organized system of accepted knowledge that applies in a variety of circumstances to explain a specific set of phenomena; "theories can incorporate facts and laws and tested hypotheses"; "true in fact and theory"
# hypothesis: a tentative theory about the natural world; a concept that is not yet verified but that if true would explain certain facts or phenomena; "a scientific hypothesis that survives experimental testing becomes a scientific theory"; "he proposed a fresh theory of alkalis that later was accepted in chemical practices"
# a belief that can guide behavior; "the architect has a theory that more is less"; "they killed him on the theory that dead men tell no tales"

From that we can say that the Christian belief of creation is a belief and nothing else.
Now, as for evolution;
Evolution is a fact.
When Darwin first proposed the Theory of Evolution he was very clear in explaining that there are two equally important aspects to the theory, first evolution itself which is plain to see it is a fact we see it all around us from fossil remains to the DNA in living animals. We see it happening within a matter of years in areas like Hawaii where lava flows separate species and these animals go on to form new species, we see it on a daily basis at a microbial level. Evolution is a fact.
The second part of the theory is the method by which evolution happens, Darwin proposed that this method could be Natural Selection that would end in survival of the fittest. It is this second part of the Theory of Evolution that is not proven, it is likely that it happens in this manner but it is not proven, because of that it is called the Theory of Evolution and not referred to it as a Law.
Evolution is a fact, however, whether it happens by Natural Selection or some other as of yet unidentified method, we don’t know.

Evolution is a sturdy clinical idea. this implies it really is a framework and is the reason talked about phenomena. Theories aren't any more shown. they don't graduate into regulations. they are as strong because it receives, and they get to be observed as theories in person-friendly words after predictions in protecting with them come real. Evolution would finally end up no longer being the full rationalization. yet keeping that Creationism is an option idea is like keeping that astrology is an option to astronomy. preparation creationism alongside a authentic clinical idea is intellectually dishonest because it supplies them equivalent weight. Creationism makes no predictions. It leaves huge holes contained in the reason of ways existence has replaced by the years ("God" did it. nicely how did he do it? What? i'm no longer meant to ask that? Why no longer?) Creationism ought to study in a faith type alongside all the different introduction myths time has discarded. It consists of no better perception than any of the older ones, and positively stocks such a great number of similarities with some that that is clean Genesis is cribbed from different, older texts. there is plenty to study contained in the field, yet none of it has something to do with technology.

The Christian worldview is a theory, under definition number 1, (except for the "physical" part, which makes no sense anyway because there are theories of sociology and history etc.) Not just that creation was divine in origin, but the entire system is coherent and organized logically. It is a theory and it has all the benefits of a theory, as in guiding future investigations. It's just not part of the physical sciences.

Sure, as a Christian I don't KNOW that God exists, but my belief in him is not dented by that. I don't KNOW that evolution is the real thing, but my faith in it as God's creation process is not affected by that. We can seldom be 100% on anything.
I dislike those that consider a theory to be something unrealistic or not based in truth. A theory is something with a good amount of evidence. This would apply to both Faith and Evolution.

The Christian story of creation, like the creation stories of all the other religions of the world, is 100 % myth pure and simple. If you were a Hindu or a Muslim or a Buddhist or a whatever you would have considered your religion's creation story to be true, because to you it would appear to be true.

The story of creation cannot be proven at all, and in fact, there is solid scientific fact to show the world was created gradually over billions of years.

it depends on who you talk to. I know that many of the stories in the bible are based on fact, but if you talk to a very religious person you would be told that its ALL true and it shouldn't be questioned. Evolution on the other hand has been proved, there are many instances of animals mutating to fit into their environment. I'm not a scientist either, so I guess I can't prove anything. Do the research. Its out there.

Its a theory, but unfortunately, science has disproven most parts of it. A theory is just a possibleexpalination of something. For Instance, My son has a theory that since they can't fly, chickens, emus and ostriches are alien species. Its stupid, but still a theory.
