I have a lot of old cd's and d-v-d s (junk) but instead of throwing them out is there any way to reuse them like in a project or something? Any ideas? Thanks

Here's a link to a bunch of "CD" related craft items. One of them is sure to catch your eye.

Give them to a school for art projects. My brother had to do an art project with an old record (large black disks with a hole in the middle)when he was in the first grade. He glued macaroni on it and then it was spray painted silver ( My mom game him a record - 78 RPM from the "Oklahoma" set - groan).
I've seen CDs hanging from trees to keep squirrels away.
Paint them with either an acrylic or fabric paint and then lightly draw/trace a design onto the dried surface and proceed to scratch onto the design. This removes the paint and leaves the shiny rainbow part exposed ... voila you have a unique "scratch board"
use them as reflectors for Christmas lights outside....the c-7 size bulbs fit thru the opening and then we put the light string on outdoor stakes and line a sidewalk...looks REALLY cool when it is lightly raining...the clear colored bulbs work best, but the opaque ones will do
Fasten to a wooden stake by pre-drilling and screwing/nailing it to the wood, shiny side OUT, and use as reflectors along your sidewalk or driveway
Use cd's shiny side up to sit small pillar or votive candles on. The reflection off the cd's is great for centerpieces on buffet tables, especially during the holidays

Take a disc label side down. Take your favorite picture (I recommend a copy) cut it slightly smaller than the circle of the disk and glue it to the disk. You can either hang the disc on the wall one by one or attach them with something you think is cool and hang them in groups someplace as a conversation piece. They will pick up light and color from any place in the room and wont $$$ you a dime! Get creative and have fun!!

You can use them as coasters - they're great for protecting your table, and are shiny and pretty, unlike regular cardboard/cork coasters.

You can use them for more science-y reason - looking though a cd can allow you to look at a solar eclipse without hurting your eyes.

You can also use them in more creative ways, like making a "beaded" curtain for your door, or a canopy/curtains for your bed. , by stringing them together with colorful warn or fishing line.

at a science center i had visited they line up the cds across the top wall as like a border. and when the light shines on it, you can see the color spectrum. you can also stick in the grass and make a small fence. or you can but the cd over a door hole .or you can resale them to like a nearby store or yard sale / swap meet

I made some neato wall decorations out of some CDs when they stopped working. I've heard of people using them to make all variety of home accessories, coasters, etc.

Drill 4 holes into each, connect them with paper clips and it will serve as a great curtain/room devider with great lighting effect.

Tie them together and hang in fruit trees to keep the birds from eating the fruit.

I'm using mine as a new table top. I'll put the reflective side up on a study desk.
