Rumor has it Buddhists are less prone to depression. In my (I grant anecdotal) experience it isn't so clear. For one thing, if you just sit there, humming in the lower octaves for hours at a time, how the hell do I know whether you're aproaching Nirvanna or thinking about setting yourself on fire?

OK, OK, most of my Buddhist friends are too cool for that. I just get jealous sometimes. How the hell can they be so calm!!??

Its the same with every religion; there are only a few true Buddhists who reach nirvana; just like there are only a few Christians who experience heaven. The rest gets depressed

I am guessing practicing Buddhists have very low depression rates.

Probably low for Buddhists.....but I think depression isnt controlled by ones religion always. It is kinda a medical condition.

Probably much lower.

Except for the Dali Lama who is just a monarchist tyrant posing as a holy man working for the CIA.

I would expect the passiveness of Buddhism to make them more mellowed out!

BUT NOT as mellowed out as the average Rastafarian who is on his or her sacred drug!

So- what does it prove?
