The recruiters and similar people in the military are not liable for anything unless they put it in writing. Kind of like a car salesman. So, yes, he was "mislead", but not lied to. The reality is that all active duty members of the armed services may at any time be sent to any place of the armed forces choosing. This is what it means to serve. I am very sorry to hear that you have had some difficulty in this area, and in the future, your friend should read everything he signs because he put his signature to a paper which gave them US the right to send him where they chose.

That's the way the Army has always done business!! Your friend should have known that. The army needs bodies!
Many people joined the Army rather than get drafted to get sent to Germany as the tours there were normally 3 years. They were, for about 3 months, then shipped to the 90th Repl Depot located right next to a damn ammo dump in Long Binh!!

I think he is either very naive' or it is a made up story.
If you are a soldier you sign up and take the government (tax payers) money, enjoy the training, wear the smart uniform, and impress girls in bars.
We only ask one thing in return and that is to do what you actually joined up to do, which is to fight bad guys when and where our government asks you to.
His choice was whether or not to join, and his choices ended there.
Finally Iraq and Afghanistan are two different combat zones with two different enemies so it wouldnt have been a trick, he would just have been stupid not to see it coming.

I don't think they tricked him. I think the need for more troops was needed and they had to get more g uys over there- so they sent them back.
I am always supprised when guys sign up for the service and get sent someplace not so good. Suprise Suprise Suprise.
If you don't want the risk of being sent somewhere, then don't join in the first place.

This is the military and we're in war. He knew what he was getting into when he joined. He doesn't need to whine, he needs to do his job. Do you think it was fair my husband had to go to Iraq three months after our son was born and thirteen days shy of our first anniversary? The military isn't fair, get over it!

well thats the military for you... He should have had all this written down in writing and thought it all the way through not just Iraq.. had them write it in contract before he resigned that he wouldn't be deployed again to fight in this war. sucks, but that is how they are

Did his contract say he wouldn't go to Iraq? If not, they didn't trick him. He should have learned that in his first enlistment.
