I disagree with this. I'm an atheist and I often say "oh my god". To me, it not only sounds less dorky and is a natural part of my speech, but if anything, it helps waterdown the God brandname. Much like how many companies refuse to allow their brandname to be used as a generic name for the product. Like calling tissue paper "Kleenex" or calling glowing paint "Day-Glo". Because if they allow that, then soon, every company can call their product Kleenex or Day-Glo; which is why these companies often sue to protect their brandname from becoming generic. I personally distinguish this by using the lower-case "god" when referring to the generic and the upper-case "God" when referring to the specific diety.
And remember, the name is not "God" anyway. It's "Yahweh". They only call him "God" because they think it's against their beliefs to use his actual name. But many people have forgotten that, and somehow think it's also wrong to say the word "God", as if that was his name. But it's not. Some people will even use the word "Yahweh" but not the word "God" because they're so confused.
And this has great implications, as the original conception of the early bible writers was that Yahweh was one of many gods. But saying his name as "God" implicitly assumes that he's the only one. But he wasn't. He was the only god they were allowed to have, but they also believed that there were other powerful gods that could fight their god. It wasn't until later that they changed that, and rewrote parts of the bible to hide this fact. But they didn't rewrite everything, and it's obvious that they originally believed that Yahweh only had power over the land where they lived and couldn't protect them in foreign nations. He was not all-powerful originally; nor was he the creator of the universe. That came later.
If you haven't already, I recommend getting "Asimov's Guide to the Bible" at Amazon or your local library. It's the best authority on understanding this stuff.

I respect your position as an atheist, although I have seen many men who claimed to be atheist find God under fire in combat.

I've been experimenting with "oh my nonexistent." It's kind of awkward. "Oh my myth" might be better, I'll give it a try.
