I live in another country than my friend so we can only communicate via the Internet and the phone. He's had some strange kind of rash and from time to time swollen legs for about three months now. He refused to see a doctor for a long time but finally went to see a dentist who told him that he got an infection due to his bad teeth and that he'd need to get some antibiotics from a doctor. He has not done that so far as I know and today is the third day in a row that I haven't heard anything from him. Neither has he signed in to the web pages he usually visits daily. I'm really a bit worried now because some time ago he mentioned that his disease was life-threatening (which on the other hand implies that he had seen a doctor, doesn't it?). Does anyone know something about this kind of infection or how dangerous it is? Maybe this is a strange question or I'm overreacting but I really worry about him. Only serious answers please!!!

Most infections originating in the teeth can travel to the heart and cause heart problems such as endocarditis. Swollen legs and a rash is rather vague. There are many other factors to consider. From what I can tell, he may be playing a vicious game with you. If severe, he would have probably seen a physician since he has access to a dentist. The dramatic verbage used, the refusing to see a physician, and now disapearing. It doesn't seem logical. Something doesn't add up. This is just an opinion. Relax and review the interactions if you can. I understand your worry. I have a feeling he is fine You may not hear from him again or his story will be embellished with a miracle cure. Either way, it's good to know that people llike you exist and really care about others.

This is something that is difficult to pinpoint precisely, but it sounds pretty bad. If it started because of poor dental health, it is most likely a bacterial infection, and it sounds like it has spread to the rest of his system. If his system becomes septic, he is in serious danger of his organs shutting down and either sustaining permanent damage or even death. The amount of people that survive septic shock is relatively small -- you are probably right to worry, he needs immediate medical attention, and may be past the point of help from an oral antibiotic. He should probably go to the hospital.

If you had the name of this serious disease maybe some one could give you an answer but without facts whats the use of guessing. If the dentist told him the disease is because of rotten teeth it sounds like some sort of blood poisioning but thats a wild guess. Give him a ring see if he answers other than that get in touch with his local police.

This sorta sounds like cellulitis, which is an infection of the skin and underlying area. Cellulitis is an extremely serious thing and if not taken care of course you could lose your limb etc. Mine was caused from a staph and strep infection and started out evidently with me scratching my toe which broke the skin and bacteria got into it and it led into cellulitis in my leg. I was in the hospital flat on my back with my leg propped up for 2 weeks. It is a very serious thing and needs to be tended to asap, that is if that is what it is. What it looks like, it started out with a very itch spot on my shin, then by the late afternoon it had spread from my ankle almost to my knee and was itchy and very very hot. I got 106 degree temp and was extremely sick. I am not sure if that might be what he has but if so he needs help immediately.

Almost all of our diseases are lifestyle related, either ours or our ancestors. Even if we inherited weaknesses, dis-eases will not manifest unless the quality of our environment is less than ideal. The biggest mistake we humans make is we are eating foods that are less than ideal. Have your friend go on an extended juice fast and then have him eat a live food diet. I've coached thousands of people and I am speaking from experience. I have seen incurable dis-eases disappear by following the above lifestyle changes.

There is no way to come to any realistic explanation or diagnosis based on the very generic and limted information presented.

Sorry, I can't think what kind of infection your friend could have but you can check out www.webmd.com and try to match his symptoms there. Maybe that could help you out.
