Society teaches us at a very young age that there are different emotional outlets for males and females. Males are allowed to be aggressive, and when experiencing emotional highs or lows, they act in an aggressive manner. When they are mad, they yell or hit things. When they are elated, that slap high fives and bellow like bull mooses.
Women, on the other hand, are trained that being ladylike means not making a fuss. That's why professional women have such a hard time not crying when they get angry on the job. It's really the only outlet they were allowed when young.
Now, of course, these are very general, and subject to cultural differences. But as a general rule, especially in the Southern United States, they hold true.

Men are rewarded in society by supressing their emotions. This is important from an evolutionary perspective because men who cried got killed on the hunt, and did not reproduce, and so we have the modern specimen. However, the brain is very plastic, so men can learn to cry. But be careful for what you wish for.
If you want to make a man cry, seize a hold of the tiny nostril hairs when he is not paying attention, and yank them out. Pulling out 5 at the same time will make most men tear up.

I think it has to do with hormones. Men produce much more testosterone. It does not mean they do not have feelings,or cry,or get their feelings hurt. They just think it is (UN masculine) if anyone sees them cry. A lot of it is peer pressure to BE A MAN: Females know that sometimes crying is all we can do to feel better,we do not bottle our emotions up so much. This is why there is a lot of abuse done by some men to their wives, they do not know how to release their frustrations, and emotions. Maby some day, they will learn that it is OK to cry,if you need too. One thing that would help is if fathers would stop telling their sons,it is a sign of weakness to cry. I am the mother of 3 grown sons, and trust me ,they feel the same emotions we do,they just handle it differently.

Women are encouraged from an early age to be aware of how they are feeling and to show their emotions. Hormones also play a role in some tears.
Men are mostly taught that crying is 'not manly', so they tend to suppress their emotions rather than releasing them. It's not healthy.

because ewhen you cry you release all your emotions. If you don't cry, then you keep all your emotions in. Women have the ability to cry through there problems, therefore dealing with them better and being able to get on with life. However men withholding emotions, make them emotionally weaker, but have the anger inside to be stronger physically to deal with things with their fists

Part of it is social expectation. That's changing though. I cry a lot. Movies, music and speeches can make me tear. Women also have the motherly instinct, which some human behaviorists think makes them more sensitive.

Men in our society are taught from a young age to act tough and not show their emotions. Meanwhile, showing emotion is encouraged for women.
