I don't think cigarettes should be illegal because then the desire to smoke them would increase because they're illegal (just look at prohibition). I don't think the government should pay for rehab for a person who chose to smoke and put themselves at risk. I do think that smoking in public places should be banned though. Non-smokers should have the choice to go to any restaurant without having to worry about the smoke. Also the "separate sections" for non-smokers and smokers does not prevent cigarette smoke from mixing into the "clean air." Smokers should have to smoke outside.

Of course they should be illegal, but the government would never pay for rehab. The same people who have been paying for smokers sins all these years would be the same ones paying for them to stop, the non-smoker. Every non-smoker who pays taxes would be footing the bill.

Historically, cigarettes are legal to people of age to make their own decisions. Medical technology has shown that cigarettes are destructive to lungs and also highly addicting. I think cigarettes should stay legal but cost more than therapy, as an incentive to quit. I think that the government has done an adequate job of ferretting out "big tobacco" such that they have to put warnings on their products. With those warnings, people who are of legal age to make their own decisions shoud pay for their own rehab/therapy, not our taxes. We need to take more personal responsibility for our own actions and not turn to tax funded organizations for help with the consequences of our personal decisions.

All sex should be banned to control population and children should be castrated at birth? It would also prevent spread of AIDS?
And overeating also should be banned,
Pepsi Coke and McDonalds etc should be banned as well
Government should pay for special physical instructors and everone should be forced to exercise , and if they don't. They should be thrown into jail.
Gee! Isn't that what thhey did in 1984 ?
War is peace
Freedom is slavery
Ignorance is power
If that's the type of world you want to live in, you are welcome to it. I would prefer to live far away from big brother. No one but I should be allowed to make such choices for me.
I agree that ppl shouldn't smoke in public places, where nonsmokers can be affected, but Iam damned if I allow politicians to decide what I should do. For all you know, those sleazy basturds might take bribes and decide that everyone should smoke Marlboro only.

yes it should be illegal, it hurts their health and others around them, we have outlawed drugs, same thing basically, it hurts you and others around you. It is killing people who dont smoke, innocent people die because someone cant stop smoking. No the government shouldnt pay for their rehab/therapy, the government didnt say either you smoke or im gonna kill you to smokers they didnt force smokers to start so they shouldnt have to pay to make them stop. the US is already in so much debt, we spend like almost 13000 dollars each day, we cant afford to pay for people to stop smoking when we didnt force them to start.

The government needs to stay out peoples personal business. People who want to smoke should be able to and people who got cancer from smoking should pay for their own treatment. The taxpayers didn't buy their cigarettes, why should they foot the doctor bill.

When my uncle laid on his death bed with lung cancer writhing in pain, he could not be given a lethal dose of any medicine. The reason is that "people on their death beds are not mentally stable enough" to make that decision. Why, because he's in pain?
Well, smokers are addicted. Why can they make the decision to slowly kill themselves?
