i'm not acting childish, but i'm kind of tiny and have a baby face and a lot of teens come on to me and it's annoying. and when i have to solv some serious matters, adults treat me as if i knew nothing because i'm too young, and i'm graduating from college next year!!!!!!

I feel your pain. Im really small 5' 1 105 lbs so I look real young and Im also going to be graduating college soon. It pisses me off but there is nothing I can do. I decided to just ignore all the frustrating encounters and live my life looking like Im still in high school. Who cares, eh - at least in 5 to 10 years we will still be pretty and young and the people who DO look their age will be old hags. lol

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I get treated the same way. I'm 24 years old and most people think I'm 16-18 because of the way I look. My fiance also looks young and when we went looking at at engagment rings we were the last to be offered help even though we were there first and we werent talked to seriously because the people who worked there didnt think we were adults. When we go house shopping as well, I ask my parents to come along, or otherwise, the realtor doesnt take us seriously because once again, he thinks we're just teenagers loitering around. When I was 18, I tried applying for a job and they wouldnt give me an application because they thought I was 14. I had to come with my driver;s license and prove to them that I was indeed 18 before they'd let me apply. On the phone, it's even worse. People call and ask me "is your mommy home?" Lol, but at least it's an easy way to get rid of a telemarketer because I just say "no Im sorry, she's not." Although one time I said that...lol...and the telemarketer called me back and she was so sweet ...she said "sweetie, please dont tell people your mom isnt home because there are bad people out there and they could hurt you." I started laughing and told her "thank you, but I'm really 24 years old." She giggled too and apologized, she said "you just sound so young."
If you look young, people probably think you are younger than your real age, and we all know that most kids and teenagers dont get taken seriously because being taken seriously and gaining respect is something that is earned, it's not a given.Try your best to prove others wrong. Try to dress more maturely and watch what you say and hopefully people will begin to see that you are intelligent and mature and will take you more seriously.

Heh, well older people seem to think younger people have no wisdom whatsoever.
Not that I agree...but one time I was in this discussion with a bunch of adults and there was this 15 year old there who always hangs out with the adults. And the prompter was saying something like "Imagine how much we pay in taxes per year (talking about our income taxes and what comes out of our paycheck)" and the kid answered 7% (that is our sales tax). Everyone laughed and the prompter told the boy to hang around his father more. It was rude what they did, but I mean we're young, and sometimes we put in our two cents when the "adults" are talking about something they have experience in and we haven't yet.

I believe the main reason is because older person's remember what they were like at 21 and think everyone 21 is like they were. Some are to ignorant to think that some 21 year olds are more mature than a 50 year old. Plain and simple age and maturity are two very different things and unfortunatley people look at age and judge rather than get to know you and see it's maturity that counts.

Well it depends on how your presenting yourself.
Sometimes being aware of the fact that you do look young, makes you act younger then you are.
Its like the sales girl that came in the other day. At first I thought that she was selling girl scout cookies or something...but she was from one of the telephone service companies....She was trying to give me her sales pitch but was moving around and giggleing and tossing her hair. I could'nt tell if she was nervous, flirting with me, or just not prepared to do her job.
I would love to hear about a situation that you had where you felt you were not being taken seriously and why?

Think about the things you did just two years ago. It is just human nature. As you get older, you realize the stupid things you did as you matured. So people quickly judge based on appearance. Is it right, no. Just be yourself, people will take you serious if you act serious.

Because at 21 you probably don't know half of what you think you do. And if you look younger than that, it only makes people think you know less - because 19 & 20 year olds know even less.

Don't let that bother you too much and you'll be okay. I dated a girl years ago that was 20 and she looked like she was 16 or 17 and she was very smart.
