they believed that they went to sheol when they died and would remain there, though there is some evidence that by the last century bc some had a reincarnation belief. if that were the case it would explain the absence of the heaven concept. the jesus movement that wasn't christian at all taught that john the baptist was the reincarnation of elijah. it seems that the essenes may have been waiting for the rebirth of their teacher of rightiousness. the jews had a cyclical; historically oriented religion. the sadducees did not believe in the resurrection. the pharasees did believe in the resurrection.
some elements may have related the resurrection to reincarnation. jesus told nicodemus the pharasee that he had to be born again to enter the kingdom. this has been understood different ways but it seem strait forward enough.
ps i look forward to seeing you all at the great ice cream blow out in heaven.
they've got all the flavors there as well as all the toppings and everyone's invited.

Believe it or not, its is Christian Orthodox belief that Jews do not go to heaven because they do not believe Jesus is the son of God.
On a more interesting note. According to Christain Biblical Prophecy, after all good christains are "raptured" up during the End Times, the entire resistance to the AntiChrist on Earth will be a sect of "Reformed Jews" who do accept Jesus.
I just think its kind of ironic that when the cards are down, the Christain half of the Judeo-Christain Alliance screws over the Jewish half.

Those that know need not believe. The word belief bespeaks some measure of doubt. In another realm that a few of us live in, called certainty, requires no belief as there is no doubt. Jews and non-Jews alike came from the realm you call heaven, we call the endless. We are all visitors here in the physical plane and are indigenous to the endless. We await your arrival!

They picked up their beliefs from the different cultures that enslaved them. They probably began their belief in the afterlife and an immortal soul before they were ejected from Egypt.

Since they worship the same god that christians do, wouldn't they reap the same benefits? I don't know, I'm a non believer. I think I'd rather burn in hell than spend eternity with a bunch of self-righteous christians anyway.

I believe that "God's children" will be spiritually invited to spend eternity with love and light if they have lived by His laws whatever your religious beliefs.
I would not want to be Osama or one of his suicidal murderers or A. Hitler, Stalin, Dahmer, etc., just to name a few.
