One grade-A large egg contains approximately 70 calories. Let's assume that most omelets will contain a minimum of two eggs, so that's a start of 140 calories. Salt and pepper add no additional calories, so you're still looking at 140 calories. Now, here's where it gets interesting: On average, one tablespoon of regular, salted butter is 102 calories. You're consuming almost as many calories in butter as you are the eggs themselves! However, if that's how you make it, one simple egg omelet will be a minimum of 342 calories. Adding additional ingredients such as vegetables will add minimal calories. Adding other products, such as meat, will cause your calorie count to soar!

If you're looking to cut down on calories, I suggest using margarine instead of butter...or better yet -- use cooking spray instead of butter or margarine.
