your experience is very typical of dieters that just eat less. you see...when you eat less, and your body doesn't get the nutrients it needs, your body goes into starvation mode and so your metabolism slows to a crawl. if it kept burning things for energy like normal, it would burn all your muscle. your body doesn't want to burn your muscle until it has to (i'm sure you've seen pics of starving kids in africa...), so it slows everything down....
of course, you lost weight at the beginning because your metabolism was at a certain level to begin with. when you stopped eating as much, your body was still expecting a certain number of calories. so you lost weight because your body burned off more calories than you ate. but now, your body has adapted to how much you eat so your body burns about how much you eat...so no more weight loss. eating less will only help you lose weight in the short term. everybody who does this will "plateau" and reach a point where they don't lose weight anymore.
also, you should be careful about eating more now....because if you do, the weight will come right back. basically, the opposite of when you started the diet will happen. your metabolism is slow now, and if you eat more than what your body expects, you will gain weight.
exercising will definitely help you lose weight. that's the only real way to lose weight and keep it off. you can actually exercise and eat more than you do now...and still probably lose weight.

Exercising will definitely help. Cutting carbs is a good way to lose weight fast but it's not very long term and often you end up hitting a plateau if you keep the same routine. You don't even have to hard core exercise, just throw in a daily walk or take the stairs instead of the elevator a few times each day

Sometimes keeping a food diary can help. Sometimes we don't remember how much we have snacked on during the day. The food diary can help you see if you are snacking excessively or help you see a bad habit.
If snacking is your problem you can look into a couple of options. You can cut down on your snacking or plan for healthier snacks. Don't drastically change your diet unless you know that you can stick with it. Otherwise you just gain all of the weight back because you go back to old habits. Just change a little at a time. Try having two "healthy meals" a week. Something as simple as having grilled food, instead of something fried.
Also, to lose weight you really need to do some type of exercise. Find something that you enjoy doing. You will be more likely to stick with it. Maybe walking, swimming, yoga, dance, aerobics. Just whatever you find interesting. If you bore easily you may want to try doing more than one thing. For instance, walking with friends on Monday and Wednesday, yoga on Tuesday and Thursday. The next week try dance on Mon. and wed. and aerobics or Tues. and Thurs.. You just have to find what works for you. The most important thing is to keep it fun and interesting. Take time and try some new things!
I hope these suggestions were helpful. Good luck and just keep the faith in yourself. You can do it. You just have to decide that you are ready to.

well, the body is funny and it will resist losing weight and/or plateau. Don't worry about it, it's natural. You should only lose 1-2 pounds a week anyways. Also, the body's weight fluctuates all the time, and you really should only weigh yourself once a week. Exercise will always help you to lose weight. Your body can't lose weight all the time, it will stop and start, don't worry about it, it's completely natural.

Sarah is right. Atkins is for short term only. Remember he died of congestive heart failure.
I can only recommend something I did two years ago. I'm cut and lean.
Gary Null's "Seven Steps to Ultimate Health", get it, read it and follow it. It's using all natural foods without cutting things you need like replacing glycogen (from carbs) and very much needed vegetables and fruits.

The adkins diet is a quick fix and when you start eating normally, you will regain the weight you lost. eating one type of food group is not the best way to lose weight. you need to eat from all four food groups; our bodies need fruits, vegetable, good carbs, lean proteins and a little fat. you need to see a nutritionist. you need to eat high fiber, nutrient dense, fruits, vegies, and berries every day. you need good carbs such as whole wheat, whole grain, high fiber carbs such as oatmeal, wheat bread and tortillas, and whole wheat pasta, whole wheat crackers, soy products such as nuts and crisps, low fat popcorn and low/non fat dairy products. drinking plenty of water and green teas will help as well. you have probably hit a plateau. you need to incorporate resistance/weight training into your program with some cardio work. our bodies are machines and they were made for physical activities. our ancestors didn't go on crazy diets eliminating food groups or sitting on their butts all day; they were active people who ate healthy meals and snacks. good luck

Don't change anything. You have just hit a plateau. Just because the scale isn't changing doesn't mean your body isn't. The scale is just a number. Alot of people forget that.
