I absolutely adore the New York City accent!! It's my favorite and I can mimic it quite well, actually! I talk fast, so it's not exactly hard to mimic it, lol. Cool question!

A genteel Southern accent is the most pleasing to the ear, but I can't think of any American accent that grates on me. I have to say there are some Asian accents that sound like whining (not Chinese, which I assume from your name is your background), and I don't like the "like" thing, but I don't consider that an accent issue.
I have to totally disagree with the person from Canada. Y'all is much less ignorant sounding than "you guys" or "youse twos", etc. ("Youse twos" really does grate on me.) You all (or the contracted y'all) is the most logical reaction to a language without a distinction between second person singular or second person plural, which is why it is being picked up by people all over the US. It's not just from the South anymore.
To be fair, I must say I'm from Louisiana, so I'm probably biased. I'm pleased to see so many people listing the NO accent and the Cajun accent. I like them too, though there isn't just one NO accent. There are quite a few, and none of them are genteel in the typical Southern way.

I don't find any USA accent distasteful they all have their own particular charm, but I do particularly like a true New Orleans accent chere, like Dennis Quaids in 'The Big Easy'. In fact I like most of the Southern accents.

I have an upper class OxBridge accent, Middle English and a little Etonian. My Father, who i never saw, was from the USA. I have always loved Americans, hate to hear wan..kers putting USA down. I made love to a wonderful lady from Texas once, She spurted down my throat, but I forgave her. I love to mix my accent with a Texas accent, It's like snake bite an honey. Tony waiting for Texans 360.

I've lived in different countries and different states, including Oklahoma and New Hampshire. I call those extreme accents. I have been told I speak like a Californian and therefore have "no accent." I think they are all cool...

I really like the Southern drawl and the Cajun accent. I love the way they sound.
I can trace my affection for these accents to fifth grade, when I would watch and hear Rogue (who's from Mississippi) and Gambit (from New Orleans) in X-Men: The Animated Series. They sounded so cool. :)

I generally only like the "general" american accent, which is the one you hear in most movies, news, and sports broadcasts. It is also one of the main accents of Canada.
I hate southern accents with the "ya'lls" and such. It makes a person sound ignorant (in my opinion) even if they aren't. I also hate the New York accent. It sounds bossy and annoying to me.
