Difficult. Every aspect of the relationship is strained. Trust must be unswerving. The love has to be honest and true. And the motivations for the relation must be genuine. I would try to avoid them at all costs. But if it feels right, sometimes you just gotta go for it.

My wife and I made it work during our 2 and a half years of dating. We lived about 100 miles apart, but I would come down and see her on weekends she worked, and stay with high school friends who had moved to her area. On weekends she didn't work, she came home to stay with her parents, who only lived 15 miles from me at the time. We made a habit of meeting in a town at the halfway point every Tuesday or Wednesday for dinner during this time. And, of course, we were talking to each other on the phone every night we did not see each other.
It can work, but there needs to be that special chemistry and trust between the two couples. I thank God my wife and I had that when we met (We're an Internet couple) but I also am wise enough to know that ours is usually the exception and not the rule. If you're thinking of doing it, be discerning.

If it works for you than it is the best relationship for you. I just cant imagine you not wondering if your significant other is spending time with another. Is a long distance relationship consider an open relationship?
