If you want great sound, versitility, and that vintage look. Then you want to go with the Fender Stratocaster. Fender's Teleocasters are like one-trick ponies. I like them and they have that vintage look, but you won't be able to do much with it. Not without the help of some pedals and a few effects. They're used for playing things like the Blues and Country, but mainly Jazz. I love (Old) Country and the Blues, but if you want to get more out your guitar Teleocaster isn't really the way to go. The Teleocaster is more for keeping the rhythm in a song.
Gibson guitars are great guitars, but thats only in the hands of those who know how to use them. People like that are Slash from Guns N' Roses, B.B. King, Ace Freeley of KISS, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, Angus Young from AC/DC, and Zakk Wylde from Black Label Society. Almost all of them use effects or pedals with their guitars, except maybe B.B. King. Mr. Tony Iommi was the first one to downtuned his Gibson SG and turned up the gain on his amp to get his sound, but if you know his story you'll know that it wasn't a quest for tone.
Ibanez guitars are great. They have the cleaniest tone and are very versitile, but their sole purpose is for Metal and Speed. There are a lot of different guitars with different set-ups, that could give you many different sounds, but it really all comes down to how good you are and how well you play. It doesn't matter what kind of guitar or amp you have if you were to give that guitar and amp to someone like Eddie Van Halen to play. Eddie would sound like Eddie. So, it will always be a good thing to know how to play your six-string.
The Fender Strat is a great guitar to start off with. You can play a lot of things on it. you could play the Blues, Country music, and downtune and play some heavy riffs. When your not practicing on it or just messing around you could make some cool sounds. If you try you can make it scream with the whammy bar, and that to me is one of the sweetest sounds. If you were to look at the numbers of which guitars sell the most. You'd see that Stratocasters are the number sellers. If you know you music history or if you look back to your musical inspirations whatever they maybe. You'd see that a lot of music legends and guitar heros use Stratocasters. For instance Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Kurt Cobain among others. So like someone already said "You can't go wrong with a Fender.".
