Over a period of time they have urinated on furniture, carpet and and tile floors. Does anyone have a solution to rid the odor other than getting rid of my pets?

Definately use this stuff called Approach. You can get it online at www.approachit.net It is AWESOME stuff. I've been using it cause my dog Sophie has been having accidents lately. Spray it in the air, pour it on the carpet and spray the furniture as much as you want, so long as the material is water-safe.

The stuff has no chemicals in it so it won't hurt you or the dogs, and just spray till the odor is gone, pour on the stains and you'll never smell it again.

Also can add it to a carpet cleaning machine!

Definately get the dogs housebroken though. Eliminating the odor will help because they won't smell their own odor and think "oh good I can pee here" but you'll need to wean them from the house.

Good luck!

If you mix vinegar and baking soda all your gonna get is a mess! On tile floors use Alcohol, that is what they use in nursing homes. When it evaporates it takes the smell with it. This also works on concrete like in kennels. For your carpets use baking soda and peroxide. Sprinkle the baking soda on the stain, make sure there are no clumps, then pour peroxide on the baking soda and rub it in. Let it dry completely then vacuum. At first it will smell worse than it ever did, but when it is dry all the smell is gone. If the stain is old or really bad you may have to do this twice. If you don't know exactly where the stain is, purchase a black light from Walmart. Wait until it is dark and turn off all the lights. Go all around the house with the light about 2 feet off the floor. Any urine, and most other bodily fluids will glow in the dark. Mark the place so you will know where to clean when you turn the lights on. Never mix the baking soda and peroxide in a closed bottle, you might get an explosion!!!! Baking soda and peroxide is also the best thing to use on dogs or cats that have been skunked. Bath first with plain pet shampoo, to get the dirt off, then lather again and pour baking soda and peroxide on pet and rub in real well, the longer you leave it on the better it works, but at least 15 minutes. DO NOT GET INTO EYES!!!!!!!

Nature's Miracle is specifically for animal urine. It gets rid of the enzymes and kills the odor. The other thing is by removing the odor it lessens the chance of the dog urinating in the same spot again. They tend to go back to the place they usually urinate because of the smell. You can find this in most petstores and many people I know swear by it.

Pet stores sell some excellent carpet deodorizers. In a pinch, if your dog urinates on the carpet. Dry it up with paper towels. If you have foamy shaving cream then work this into the carpet and let it dry. (Yes this actually works) Vacuum. No smell or stain.

We use a two step carpet cleaner that really helps. It's called Capture. I think you can get it at Home Depot. You mist the stain first, then sprinkle a powder on it, and let it sit. After a while you vacuum it up. It's a great carpet cleaner.
Don't get rid of the pets! let them outside more often!

Have your carpets steam cleaned at least once a year--make sure they have a truck mouted unit--has stongest suction to get out the water and urine---then for in between---go to PetSmart--or local pet store for some ideas---Capture Carpet cleaning will also work well for that.

I use white vinegar to counter act the amonia smell of urine. its is cheaper than the stor bought pet deodorizers and though you do have the smell of vinegar your pets may be bathed in a solution of vinegar to counter act the smell also. Consult with your vet on other possible solutions and the proper mix for bathing your pet in vinegar.

sprinkle a lot of baking soda on it and rub it in ( like with a scrub brush) let it sit for a day or so and vaccuum. Baking soda mixed with a little water ( to form a paste like consistency ) also works pretty good. I have also heard that "Urine Gone" works really good. A lot of wal-marts sell it.

There are a number of suggestions in other messages which will help you get rid of it in your furniture, but the real problem is that they do it at all.

Find a local trainer to train them to only go outside.
