This is tricky. If you simply eat more calories, what you will gain is fat, not muscle. To gain muscle, you have to train your muscles HARD and increase your proteins AND carbs. When you're working the muscles hard, eating well and getting adequate rest, the body created Human Growth Hormone (HCG) which is necessary to gain muscle. Without the presence of hard exercise, all additional calories are simply stored as fat. Weight lifting works by tearing down muscle fibers, then while the worked muscle group is resting, the fibers repair themselves stronger. They do, however, need more protein because proteins have been damaged. Your body needs more carbs, because you are burning serious calories, and you need adequate rest because your body only manufactures HCG while you are sleeping, which is why babies sleep a lot, because they're growing!

Only an ectomorph could ask that question. If you are naturally thin and want to gain weight the healthy way -- this is going to sound deceptively simple but -- you need to eat more. Okay, what does that mean? Let's say an adult male needs 2500 calories a day to maintain weight with an active lifestyle that includes exercise. You probably need to eat 2700 or more calories to gain weight. The trouble is if you want to gain weight the healthy, natural way it will cost you because you should eat whole foods and unprocessed foods and more of them. And, frankly, healthy foods are way more expensive. You will also have to cut out the junk foods and processed foods and drinks. Try eating a healthy small meal every two to three hours. You will put on weight but you will have to exercise to make sure it goes on in a way that looks good. Good luck.

You can gain weight the healthy way by bulking up. Eat high protein and higher fat foods but work out to make the fat turn to muscle. That is the way you can gain weight.
Thank you,
Amanda
