Be like, "Do you think we'll ever get married?" and see what he says. Just say it all innocent and depending on his reaction you can go from there.

If it is a good relationship you will already know whether he wants to get married or not, the conversation should come easily to you both, If he really loves you he wont be shocked or scared, just talk to him about the idea and discuss the timeframe you would be talking about to get engaged, people can be engaged for a long time! How long have you been together for?

propose to him, if you aint got the balls to do that, when watching something on tv with a wedding in it, or if you are going to a wedding ask him how he feels on the subject, and if its a positive answer, then ask him where he sees your relationship going. you could of course go for "bunny boiler" mode and leave wedding mags, or pages of mags with brides etc. lying around open. If hes freaked out by that, bin him and find someone who will marry you.

first you need to be so confortable with him that this big conversation is not awkward..if you two are that good together, then you are both ready for that next big step. if all else fails leave out jewelry catalogues with pages marked LOL
