Maybe the dog doesn't know its name yet. My niece is 9 mo old and has just started looking at you when you call her name.

the dog is responding to the name reinforce this by getting excited not disappointed dogs should repond to their names in this simple way you can work on other comands such as come by watching the response to the word "come" your dog may have aready learnd various commands and is waiting for another command. if the next command is not givven he or she may start ignoring the name. training is a work of communication you must work to maintain that communication with your dog. the problem is not the dog but what you expect from the dog. if you expect to much at first you will become discouraged from trying again break what you expect down and work on improving the response you are getting.
Finally you should get help by talking to your veterinarian and a local dog trainer.

No! Not at all. it takes time for a dog to learn its name. it took my dog at least a month. just keep calling your dog by its name, and when ever you talk to it, say its name. Also, your dog will just look at you when you say its name, unless you give it a command. When you call your dogs name, try saying the command after you say their name. Otherwise, your dog will have no idea what you want him to do.

IT sounds to me your pet doesn't like the name she has right now...I purchase a corgie/border coille mix he was an 8wk.old
pup,What i did i pick out 3 different names and call each name one by one and he came to the one he liked(this is true)so his name is Pepper and he is very smart and a beautiful dog..He looks more like a border collie with shorter legs...All i had to do is work with him alittle bit...So why don't you try this and see what happens and if she picks a name she likes,Just work with her,You will be surprise in the big change this makes...You can have a great pet, give her sometime and work with her and she will bond with you,and trust and love you...Dogs are a great friend and companion...You can do this,it takes alittle time...

be patient with him/her, you said his name/sell her........try using food/treats, call her/his name then give a treat. do this enough and eventually it will work with out the treat. try talking to him/her constantly and petting while saying his/her name also. I have 2 dogs and didn't really have alot of trouble with that part. if you 're subconsciously thinking about selling him/her you are probably relaying the stress that you are feeling about this issue to your new best friend, and they probably wont respond in a positive way that you expect. dogs are funny like that. ever heard that they can smell fear? that's not all that they can sense...good luck and be patient

go get a dog training book or even better, go to a class. Teach the dog that you are the pack leader and some basic commands. It starts with the pack leader thing, if the dog doesnt think you are in charge, she will never listen to you.

I takes time, to build a relationship yes even in dogs. If you are so willing to sell her, then why did you bother to buy her in the first place? Get to know your dog, if you have to.send her to obidence class. When the dog trust you and love you it will come. Just remember that a dog is a living creature and they all come with diferent personalities.

How fast are you to make GOOD friendships? Do you immediately make solid pals with strangers? Animals dont either. As they observe the way you act, how you treat them, the tone of your voice, the body language, how loud things are around it... ALL of these things and more influence how fast the animal learns whether it can trust you to not hurt it or frighten it.

Just as you learn about the people in your life, so too do the animals. They are NOT stupid, nor do they lack the ability to read you even when you THINK you are being obvious.... they can sense if you genuinely love them or are being two faced. THEY KNOW!

Take your time, talk softly and dont make sudden moves... touch gently looking into its eyes like it is something precious, and say I love you.... they understand the tone of your voice and touch so much better than just saying their name over and over... animals get bored with stupid human tricks. Imagine yourself in a strange place, surrounded by complete strangers.... who would YOU trust? Would it be someone who forces themselves onto you, or someone who yells at you? Someone who touches you without your' wanting them to??? What would YOU want someone to do if YOU were the stranger? That is how you figure out how to help a new pet get used to living with you....

Generally it is a minimum of a month before a new pet begins to really oopen up to a new home.... unless you know who had the dog before you and how they treated it, you are going to have to be careful to teach it to trust you... you do that by not getting in its face, yelling, screaming, forcing toys on it before it trusts you... rough handling, insensitive tone of voice all tell the animal it can trust or not ... YOU are the smarter one, you need to act like it.. its good you came in here and asked... it shows you care. Give the dog time and space and patience... LOVE IT.

Yes... take time with the dog. I mean, also, if the dog had a different name prior to the new one you're giving it, then it'll take some time for the dog to recognize the new name. Think if your name was changed from Joe to Michael... it would take you a while to respond to Michael.

Don't sell the dog.Every day train your dog by calling its name and teaching it tricks and if you want to,give it rewards when it does something right. The dog will come to know its name if you be patient with it.it will take time.
