My boyfriend who I dumped when he said he loved me because I felt guilty about being happy when my dad died told me that when my dad died it showed him that you have to say what you feel before you your time runs out. He said that he said that he loved me because he wanted to make sure I knew that he loved me because he knew that at any moment he or I could die, do you believe that?

if your life is a drama you're not living your life. This kind of 'issue' should arise no more than a couple of times a year. If you deal with this stuff on a regular basis I recommend you read "Getting the Love You Want" by Havelle Hendrix. Read it and you'll understand what love actually is and how to maintain a healthy relationship. I work regularly with couples in turmoil and this is the only book I recommend.

Well...I think that the philisophical theory is correct, but I think the way he is applying it is suspicious.

Sure, there are situations that call for expressing your feelings where those feelings are important for the other person to know.
When you have really strong feelings that you need someone to know about, you dont wait till the last minute to tell them.

I think your ex is just trying to play on your sympathy...using your dad as an emotional crowbar.

I understand what he meant. It is often the case that things unsaid haunt you later after the person to whom you should have said them is no longer here. It goes for grandparents, parents and yes, even young girlfriends. He was a sensitive young man and I think (from what you say), that you treated him a little harshly. An example of one of mine below. My eldest brother:

Frank.

My hero died last week; he never knew
I thought the world of him, but failed to tell him so,
He went not knowing how I felt since I was very young,
The last one of my heroes died, his praises left unsung.

In his defense, it's true; you never know when your number is up. Maybe he should have worded it better, I don't think he was happy that your dad died. If he is, then you're right to dump him.

I believe it.
Your boyfriend needed some space to get used to the idea that you could be happy when your father died.

yes because you never know when your time is gunna come but if that's the reason you dumped him that's a mistake. cause you bascially dumped him on his feelings for you.
