poochy as in lots of fat? crunches do nothing if you're trying to reduce the fat....all they do is build up your ab muscles. you need to do cardio for 40-60 mins or lift weights. you don't need to lift heavy and become super muscular....but developing more muscle mass makes your body burn off more calories per day just to maintain/operate them.
i'm not sure why you mentioned scoliosis or arthritis...i don't know what it has to do with a poochy stomach. if you just eat better and exercise, the fat should go away and your stomach should flatten out.

I am a trainer and a pilates instructor. There are 3 things that I know for certain about this. You MUST train the lower abdominals to tighter the area. Most poeple only train the upper and mid, but do not train the lower. Pilates is one of the best exercises to help flatten the abs. There is a muscle that runs from hipbone to hipbone called the "transverse abdominus" which pulls the abdominals inward. Even most personal trainers don't know how to train the lower abs. Try this: Hold your knees at 90 degrees just above your hips, knees bent. Make sure that your spine is no more than 1" off the floor. Your fingers should barely fit under your back. Hold one leg steady and lower the other one until the toe touches the flloor, then switch. The key here is that while your legs move, your hips and lower back should not. Your abdominals should work to keep them steady.
The second thing I know is that a "pooch" is sometimes the last place that a woman looses fat.
The 3rd thing I know is that swelling in that area can indicate a food allergy. My mother-in-law had allergey tests done. When she quit eating what she was allergic to, her stomach went down quite a bit.

Well, I think that you may want to stop trying to lose weight. According the the BMI you are at the lower end of the spectrum and only 2 pounds away from being underweight. I suggest you stop obsessing about your stomach and accept the way that your body is made. I bet that you are a beautiful woman, but each pound you lose takes you closer to being a skeleton (ie death). Perhaps you won't notice your "very poochy" stomach if you gained 10-15 pounds (you would still be normal weight if you weighed as much as 132 lbs) and your body evened out a bit. Just my suggestions... but skin and bones is not attractive or sexy!!

You can start by watching fewer people on MTV and going to Wal-Mart to check out what real people look like.
Your weight is fine. There's no magic "fix" for making your stomach less "poochy." You can't change your body, but you can change your mind.

Check your posture. Many times the spine is not straight. Stand with your back against the wall and tuck your fanny under so you can just put your hand in the small of your back. This tightens the abs and flattens them.
