A Christian goes to church for the same exact purpose any other person participates in any other organized gathering, be it sports, gangs, hang outs, school, clubs, etc. It's done based upon the perceived value that is received by the individual.

These values are usually of things like unity, importance, honor, and most importantly, love. So as a Christian, I go to church because it gives me a deep feeling of Love and equips me to share that with others.

Blessings,

James

Here are some reasons:

“And let us continue to consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another even more as you see the day coming nearer.” (Hebrews 10:24-25)

John Calvin and Martin Luther, both of whom were important figures in the Reformation of the Church, believed so strongly in corporate worship that they made comments like, “Apart from the Church, salvation is impossible.” (Martin Luther) And, “So highly does the Lord esteem the communion of the Church, that He considers everyone a traitor and apostate from religion who perversely withdraws himself from any Christian society which preserves the true ministry of the Word and Sacraments.” (John Calvin)

Here's another reason: (I Peter 5:8) "Be clear-minded and alert. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour." If we separate from the Body (the church), we are alone in the faith. The devil and his minions are like wolves, hyenas, coyotes and other animals that hunt in packs. In the wild, these animals rarely attack a herd or flock. They wait for one or two to get separated from the rest. They go for the stragglers, who are usually the weakest, either from the journey or illness. Then the predators attack. It's never fair. Five or six to one. And the attacked animal almost always loses.

Likewise, the Christian who separates from the church, is alone. Without a constant diet of solid biblical preaching, and encouragement from other (and stronger) believers, this Christian becomes weak and malnourished in the Word. Their defenses are down. Then the devil and the demons attack. Since the Christian is alone, weak and malnourished, he/she has nothing to defend themselves with, and they succumb to temptation or become disillusion with the faith, and fall away. Their testimony gets damaged, their faith is in shreds, and they wonder, "Why bother?" and quit. Then the devil is satisfied.

It is like this: If the devil can't have your soul, he will have your walk and testimony, if you let him. And skipping church is a sure fire way to go down that road.

as a christian, i go to church to fellowship with other Christians, worship God (even though I can do that anywhere, there's just something about worshiping God in a huge room with hundreds of other christians that's so cool), and hear and learn about the Word of God (the Bible) and God's plan for my life, and be uplifted. i also volunteer and work a lot at my church.

It's a weekly family reunion where unknowing pre-existing members are invited in. Outsiders are allowed to watch. It's supposed to be a sharing of love, but usually winds up being little more than a recitation of the do's and don'ts of life in this world.

When someone goes to the church, this express his deepest wish to be closest to God for a while. It's a way to feel that you can pray and your prays will arrive to Him for sure. It is sth that christians feel as a need... They feel safer there, they want to know that they have Him with them...
That's what i think. I'm a christian too..... but i rarely go to church..!!!

I go to worship and to fellowship with those that believe, I also go to meet with God. I feel that it is important to my Christian walk to be able to have a place and a freedom to worship and give praise to Jesus for His gift to us.

It is a great place to meet with both those that believe and those that are searching for something more. A place to learn and step out of the troubles of the world.

People in general go to church to stay in touch with GOD. You can not say you love GOD and don't go to his house to worship him. You can not teach your-self everything about the bible. "GOD said he gives us preaches and leaders to teach his words in his house". Alot of people say I'm not going beause the preach is this and that, But you know what that is no excuse, GOD use that preacher to get his words out and GOD words Never, never, never come back void. GOD words is the truth and if you trust GOD go to his house I dare you to go three times and tell me the result. Ask GOD for something and believe in your heart without dought and he will give it to you. GOD love us so much that Jesus died on the cross for you before you were even born and Jesus is worthy of your paise too. Its very complecated and it takes time to understand GOD but first to build a relationship pray to GOD and ask him to guide you to a church home where you can get to know him. I go to church to learn more about the creator that I love so, so, so, much. I also go to be around (fellowship) with people that share the same faith. I also go to ask questions about things I don't know.
