dont you think that we should support our troops for what they are donig, providing freedom to our nation, rather than people spouting their mouths about what THEY think about the war? it only makes sense for our nation to be United and support our troops whole heartedly no matter which political party you affiliate yourself with.

Of course they deserve our support. They put their life on the line everyday so we can enjoy the freedoms that we have. Send one a thank you, or go up to one and tell them thank you....they will appreciate it.
Those of you who don't support the war, think about 9/11 and all the people who died. This fight was going to happen, and I would rather it happen on foreign shores, than in my back yard. These men and women are trained for this. If you ask them, they will tell you they are proud of what they do. They went into the military knowing they were being trained to go to war, and that someday they may end up fighting.
We don't have to like it, but we have to support our troops, our government, and yes our PResident...after all, we are the ones who put him in office. Can't complain about the way he does the job now. (after all, he was voted in twice).

We have had this question many times ... and the answer from me is always the same ... of course we support our troops, but that doesn't mean we have to support the war!! And I don't think the war in Iraq is providing freedom to our nation, far from it, if anything it gives terrorists a chance and a reason to continue with their threats and rhetoric ... so, yes, the troops are supported, they have to go where they are sent and do the best with the situation at hand ... the cause they're being used for is not!

My experience has been that people in fact do support the troops. From what I have heard, most people feel sorry for the troops. These are people who signed up for a job. Unfortunately their job has been to go to Afghanistan and Iraq and fight a war. War is ugly and horrible, no matter what the cause, just or unjust. My hope is that one day everyone on this planet will figure out another way of dealing with each other without the use of violence. We have been living on this planet for thousands of years together, we have invented amazing things and we haven't found a way to get along, it's sad.

*sigh* Why does this sentiment keep coming up over and over and over again?
What is so difficult about understanding the idea that people can support the troops and simultaneously be against the war?
Listen closely. You don't have to support the war to support the troops. As a matter of fact I would argue that you do a better job of supporting the troops by advocating that they not be put in harm's way unless absolutely necessary.
Please try to think through issues beyond the bumper sticker on your pickup.
Did that get through at all? I'm guessing not. Oh well, I gave it a shot.

As a military wife and former proud military member, I agree with you and thank you for asking this question. Apparently people either forgot or were taught about what happened in Germany after WW2. The Berlin wall proves that countries that are well developed can still have their freedoms stripped from them. Yes, it wasn't from foreign terrorist but the point is, do these non-supportive so-called Americans want to know what it feels like to not have freedom?
As a third generation American I was taught to never take our freedoms for granted, which is sadly what many Americans do everyday.
GOD BLESS AMERICA AND HER TROOPS!!!

Of course they do, what kind of a question is that? Do you honestly think the grunts in the Army or Marine Corps had a CHOICE about whether they were going to war or not? Just like their predecessors in the Vietnam War, they answered the call to duty when that call wasn't a very popular thing. I'm a veteran of the first Persian Gulf War, and it wasn't easy for us to go then, either. And that was during a time when the military effort was POPULAR! Give these guys and gals a break. They've all kept the faith, ....God bless and protect each and every one of them!

I'm 20 years old and as being a soldier in the US Army, i say yes support the troops. I find it hard to believe that none of you knows how much it means when you walk around in uniform and a 90 year old woman, whom you've never met before in your life, comes up to you in her wheelchair and asks you to bend down so she can give you a hug. I have had people of all ages coming up to me and thanking me for what I'm doing over here. It's one of those things that makes you hold your head up high and walk around with a little pep in your step to know that even though none of these people actually know you that they all care if you die in war. I will admit though that the job I do is a bit easier than those who are convoying everyday or raiding houses, I am a chrewchief on a blackhawk, but the job isnt exactly easy. I joined in 2003 after the war kicked off so i could do my part. I wanted to come here and help in anyway i could. I have however, as in any case, had some people come up to me and insult me and try to bring me down, but that was quenched quickly by others around me because of their love and support for us. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs and opinions, they are also entitled to express them. All of you should know one person in your life that is either a soldier or has a soldier in their life, just remember if you have a negative outlook on us, what they must feel like everyday hoping and being afraid that their soldier might end up in the paper the next day because they had their arm blown off or were killed. Its people's sons and daughters, wifes and husbands fighting this war, not machines or murderers. We do our best everyday to stay safe and do our jobs at the same time, but sometimes it's not possible to do both. Next time you see a soldier, say hi and thank them for their service, and know that even if that soldier doesnt know you that they appreciate every bit of support they can get from the home-front.

I am 18 and in the Army. I find it so hard to believe that there are so many assholes in the US that think military people are stupid. We are fighting for them. Everyone in the military needs as much support as they can get. I love the Army and I'm not going to let anyone tell me that I am an idiot. What the hell are they doing with their life?? This subject pisses me off. (armygirl2675@yahoo)

absolutely and totally, until we trade places and walk where they are walking we need to pray, write letters, donate goods , whatever. But mostly we need to verbally support our soldiers And our country. Older men, and so many of our young guys have gone or are still there, and some have given their lives. Stop complaining, vote, try to make a difference if you dont like our leaders. They are why our country hasnt lost our freedoms YET.
