One of the answers stated they saved 1,500.00 buying a plasma TV. If you can deal with a 15 inch depth instead of a 4 in depth, consider DLP Projection TV.

I PAID 1,500.00 for my FORTY-SIX inch Samsung DLP.

DLP is cheaper, as clear, does HD and is cheaper, did I mention that? (There is an additional cost down the road when the lamp needs to be replaced, I think they last two or three years, but lamp cost is $350.00)

The Sharp Aquos is considered by many (magazine reviewers) to be the highest quality LCD flat panel TV. Be sure to look at it before you make a decision. If that is too expensive for you, use it as a reference standard for others. When judging TVs in the store make sure that the contrast, brightness, sharpness and color settings are not set way high. This is often done in stores to make the picture "stand out", but that is not the way ou will look at the TV at home. Set the controls to mid range. If the salesman won't accomodate you, go somewhere else.

I would first of all recommend going to a several stores that sell LCD TV's and look at all the models. I tried to view them from about the same distance I would at home. I recommend going to different stores to view the models, since each has a different lighting set-up. Ask technicians for their opinions at each of the stores.

However, when it comes to buying one, I recommend getting it on-line. DTV City (dtvcity.com) is where I bought my plasma TV and am very happy with their service. I also saved about $1500. Additionally, they have all sorts of links to help you thoroughly understand what you are buying.

I hope this helps.
