There is no 3rd date "rule". If there were that would mean a book or some kind of publication or perhaps universally accepted law is out there instructing one what to do. The 3rd date "rule" has many variation and each depends who you ask. The only practical dating advice I have ever heard is simply go with the natural flow of the date and do what you feel comfortable with there after.
