Oh is that a loaded question of the day!!!!

To put it bluntly... ignorance on both sides.
(ignorance - lack of education, not to be confused with the word stupid)

As a general rule, there are extreme leaders on both sides of the fence, and most of the common folks follow blindly.

If the two sides would take time to really learn about the other's they would quickly find that the two are almost identical.

One of the first things is that both have split off into several groups, that don't even agree among themselves.

For my countrymen... what are the differences in a Catholic, Mormon, Southern Baptist, Pentecost, and Quaker? They are all Christian.

If you put all of the different sub groups together (on each side) you will see what I'm talking about.

As a Christian, who just spent a year in a Muslim country, I learned a lot. As one of my Muslim friends put it, "We believe in the same God, just have different supervisors".

The big difference the three major religions that are battling right now, is the time line.

Jewish drop off at the end of the old Testament
Christians drop off after Christ
Muslims just take it a bit further, to Mohammed.

Why isn't there love and peace... because we are human. Humans are not perfect, but maybe one day we will learn to do better.

Well I'm sure I've upset both sides, so be it.

There should be love and peace between all people. But in the end I still think Muslims should become Christians, and many muslims think I should become a muslim, and that is an big conflict.
That said, I love Muslims, since I love all people, and I don't wish anyone harm.

1. Because people still insist on having somone else tell them what to believe about god. They are afraid of being individuals.
2. War drives economies. Rich people make more money if you are trying to kill someone who is superficially different than you.
3. War brings in new recruits to the churches. Everything has to be a struggle AGAINST something evil. Why can't it be about the things you are FOR? I think there is more commonality between people than religion allows for.
4. People are Xenophobic. People are scared of anyone who is "different". This is a conditioned response from thousands of years of brainwashing.
5. Judeo-Christian religions tell you to kill anyone who doesn't believe the same as you. (See #2&3).
6. Too many transgressions have occured ON BOTH SIDES for people to forgive the infidels on the other side. There will always morons who can't forgive the actions of those who came before them.
7. As long people feel the need to define themselves as "christian" or "muslim", there will not be peace.

Because, we disagree as to the nature of God. Muslims have be hijacked by people of murderous Intent and have allowed themsleves to be drawn away from true islam. Christians went though the same ordeal in the middle ages and that is what created the Crusades. We have since defeated those influences. The muslims must now do the same.

Kind of tough when the goal of Islam is that the world should contain only Moslems.

Osama and his kind are presently trying to convince all Islam that the only way to do that is to kill off all the Christians and Jews.

Sad, really. Because Islam in southern Europe once welcomed all faiths and that resulted in a flowering of the arts and sciences as talented people of all religions came together in the same area.

But there's hope. Christianity had its Holy Wars and Inquisition too. Hopefully, were over it.

Two reasons:

1. They have very similar philosophies and are thus mutually exclusive (i.e. "there is not God but Allah" vs. "there is no God but God"...).

2. They historically arose next to one another, and thus ended up competing for followers among largely the same pool of people.

And, of course, it also meant that when neighbouring nations squabbled for resources, religion could also become a factor (i.e. monarchs could claim that they were not invading some place in order to expand their personal power, but they were invading it on a mission from God to do righteous battle with the godless scum next door - which would be more popular with the population as tells them that they are superior and special).

It is for this reason that very few religions that historically have been in contact with one another ever get along very well. perhaps the only exception that I can think of is Buddhism and Shintoism in Japan. But those two are just so very different...

There is, for the most part. Especially here in the US and other countries where Christians and Muslims live peacefully side by side. But there are some on both sides who try to forcibly convert the other, or worse, try to kill the other. That's human.

Christians are completely tolerant of Muslims, they are not. We follow the royal law which Jesus preached to us.

James 2:8
If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, "Love your neighbor as yourself," you are doing right.

Muslims refuse to listen to anything contrary to their beliefs and their scriptures. They are a stiff-necked, hardened of heart group of people. For the most part this applies to American Muslims who have little understanding of the social oppresion their religion advocates. Go to the Arab countries or Southeast Asian countries that are Islamic and you will find a people who are ready to gladly convert to Christianity to get out of the oppressive hell they live in now.

I love all people, and make it my effort to shine a little light from Heaven on them if I can, but some people are like black holes and live in a cloud of darkness.

Simply put christians believe in Jesus and muslims believe in Muhammad. There is two different teachings. So there is no trust between the two. Shameful, this is a nice little niche for the athiest.
