I usally carry the things I might wanna use while on board or at the airport between connecting flights, snacks, drinks or some extra items that won't fit in my luggages. Make sure no weapons.

portable DVD player, dvds (if you sit in coach you cant really see the movie they provide you too well), a cd player ( i dont bring my iPod because i don't want it to get lost and i can't recharge it but with a cd player all i need are some extra batteries), gum (for take off and landing they help your ears feel normal lol), my digital cam ( me n my sis like taking funny pics of eachother so the time flies by), a change of cloths (incase they loose your luggage), female necessities ;], headphones (if you're not flying international, they make you pay for your own pair), hand sanitizer, pen n pencil, sudoku book, sweater, chapstick, water

Gum, book, magazine, pen, water, head phones, lip moisturizer, nail file, hand sanitizer, tissues, Diet Pepsi a must! Oh and that nasty cell phone, as well as socks in the summer. It gets cold on the toes!
