I have worked in retail for many years and want to hear a "customers" explaination: Why is it okay for the customer to throw/place their money, coins, credit card on the counter when paying, but if I do it, I'm being rude or discriminating against them? Whenever I train new cashiers at my (thank goodness part-time) job, I tell them to hand the change or cc and receipt to the customer, no matter how rude or nasty they maybe.

There is no excuse for bad behavior, BUT as we know service providers are required to be polite and courteous no matter what.

You will get people who are pissed off or annoyed already before making their way to the store...AND take out their frustrations on the poor service provider....

However still doesn't make it right.... That's just plain wrong.

It is NEVER OK to disrespect other people by throwing or flinging things at them. When people throw the money on the counter , it is an indication of how little they value it. But placing stuff on the counter is different. They may do it to make sure that the correct amount has been put together before paying you.A stable background can help them make that judgement. You have to hand money over directly because you are supposed to act confident and trusting- ' it is OK with us even if we paid you a little more. We like you and so it does not matter'. You have to make the personal touch to make an impression. Customers dont really need to make an impression on you.

It's common courtesy to place the money in a person's hand whether they are a customer or retail clerk. People who put it on the counter are being rude in my opinion.

why? because u are getting paid to perform a job. i can give u just as many stories about cashiers being rude, trust me. i am not condoning ANY rudeness or nastiness on the part of anyone.
it would be nice if people minded their manners and respected
EVERYONE but unfortunately that is not the way of the world.
its not discrimination.........its a matter of treating people like you want to be treated. the best to you!

Businesses cater to morons so you get moron customers. My last job I worked with customers and if they didnt hand me the money I did not hand there change to them. I would dump there change all over the counter, sometimes the change falling to the ground.

I had so many grown adults in tears over this, its amazing how dumb people are. You want respect than treat others with respect, if you dont, dont get all emotional for getting what you deserve.

I think it's rude when anybody puts money on the counter. I hate it when I see other customers do it and when the employee does it to me.

Actually people should be polite to each other. Hand money to people; be it from cashiers to customers or customers to cashiers. Rudeness begets rudeness. Politeness begets politeness. Always be polite back to people who are polite to you.

It's not okay. These people subconciously are showing how little respect they have for themselves. As a purchaser they feel that without them, you wouldn't have your job. It is ALWAYS better to show good amnners, especially when faced with rudeness.

You're getting paid to be there. The customer is not.
