I'm actually going to become that atheist doctor, and I'm glad you guys aren't like the two people I know. Thanks for your input, everyone. Except for the first answer...I don't get it. What does Darwin have to do with treating people?

I'm sorry you feel that way. But not everyone who doesn't have religion is amoral or unethical.

If you know people who would leave a good doctor because he didn't agree with their religious beliefs, then they're idiots. He either knows his job or he doesn't, and in a professional relationship, that is what's important.

Professionals who do not believe in God have a tendency to put themselves in that position. Doctors tend to believe that they know it all and if they fail in the diagnosis and treatment, they want to blame the patient for a lack of cooperation. Doctors who have no faith in God are dangerous because they do not believe themselves capable of mistakes, and I don't want someone like that having control of my physical heath. The god complex that accompanies physicians who have no faith, distorts their ability to correctly diagnose sickness or prescribe medication. A doctor who believes in God will acknowledge his limitation and pray for guidance. They are cautious and thorough and dedicated to the welfare of their patients. Doctors who do not believe however, are only concerned with how long they can keep you comming back so they can get as much money out of you as possible, and when the money or insurance runs out, so does their interest in you. Give me a believing Doctor every time. Also, doctors with no faith have no moral or ethical standards. It is whatever profits them the most which generates their decisions, but a Doctor that believes in God has a moral and ethical standard which profits the patient over the Doctor.

Sunshine! Due to the fact that practicing medicine is just that, "PRACTICE" I prefer to see doctors who share my faith. I have been to doctors whom I have no clue about their religious affiliations, and others who bring up God and prayer in the exam/birthing room/surgery suite. I have totally been comforted in times of pretty extreme stress by the fact that they pray for and receive help from their higher power while they are treating me and my family. This is just my opinion. I wouldn't NOT see a doctor that is an atheist, but given an option...someone with faith in God would be preferable. Good luck in medical school...women docs rock!

If I am dying and he can help me why not. I also think the people tha think that way are weak minded. PErhaps a miracle could phsically happen to them and it would be an opportunity for the athiest doctor to experience God's healing power.

If you were hanging on the edge of a cliff and the only person who was there to pull you up was an atheist, would you allow him to help you, or would you choose to fall to your death?
I would choose to live. And I would choose to let the knowledgeable doctor do his job. His personal choice in religion is none of my business.

In Islam, If you can find a substitute from your own religion, you are advised to use that substitute especially in Secret revealing problems.
If you do not find one, knowledge of this this doctor is required and your relationship with him should not include discussion of your or his beliefs as we ought to respect others

No, a person's personal beliefs have no impact on me. That's what living in a free country is for. As long as he/she can do their job, I don't care what they believe in. Why am I talking about religion with my doctor anyway?

If he or she was really good and I had been going to this doctor for a while and trusted this doctor's abilities I probably would continue to see him or her.

lol, i'm going to be an atheist doctor.
remember there aren't separate medical schools for christian and atheist doctors, we go to the same schools. we have to study the same material. although we have morals that don't include hating someone because they're gay. so i dunno. it depends on the person.
would it help if i married a christian? lol.
