1 liter of water (less the container) weights exactly 1 kg (1,000 grams). This is equivalent to 33.15 fluid ounces. A (mass) ounce of water wieghts 30 grams. A cup (8 fluid ounces) of water will weight (1000/30) = 7.886 ounces. So, it's close enough to assume that a cup of water (less the container) will weight 8 ounces and a pint (16 fluid ounces) of water (less the container) will wieight a pound.

there are a lot of things that weigh a pound, just go to the supermarket and look around, but it won't be exact because you have to take into consideration the weight of the container. your best bet is to go to a kitchen equipment store and purchase scale weights, for sure they will have a one pound weight.
