Can You Freeze Raspberries

2016-11-01 08:27:57 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

I saw a great trick on the "Good Eats" Show on food network.... the was storing strawberries in the freezer and had a great method to keep them from being mushy when they thaw.... you can use the same procedure on rasberries...

1 quart strawberries, de-stemmed
1 (3 pound) block dry ice

Wash strawberries and place in a paper towel-lined colander. Cover with another paper towel and place in the refrigerator for 4 hours.
Break your dry ice into small pieces, and toss with berries in a large bowl. Place into a container and cover with a towel. Place this in a cooler for 25 to 30 minutes. Remove berries and put into sealable bags and store in the freezer.
OBVIOUSLY....
you just have to be more gentle when using rasberries.....

Yes you can freeze raspberries. Rinse in water, let water drain from fruit. Spinkle fruit fresh, another name for abscorbic acid, lemon juice, or citric acid, from the store on them, and then seal in plastic containers. I usually aid the acid or lemon juice to the final rinse water, then freeze. This will keep the color of most fruits from turning brown. Great for peaches too.
Dr. Linus Pauling, my favorite professor, would be proud to hear that you used this method

Yes, one can freeze all berries. I have found, however that the texture of the delicate berries is some what compromised by freezing them, so they won't be 'like fresh ones' but they are still delicious.
