I used to have a 'type' that was based on my first ever crush. A friend of my brother named Eric. Nothing happened there and it was a humiliating experience. I had bad relationship after bad. Then I stopped looking for a type and had one great short relationship. And then a bunch of not so good ones but all the people were different types. So now I don't look for more than friendship. I figure I need to be a better me to have a better relationship.

Personally, I don't think you do all the time. Some similarities are great to have but if your to much alike you'll get annoyed with each other quickly so if your already looking for someone new then you should be able to spot this little 'same-types over and over bug' and try to fix it. Plus If your not to much alike your relationship could be more interesting.

On the outside they are different (in appearance or type of work they do, for example), and they have the good qualities I like, so I think they're going to be different, but then it turns out they have addiction issues or other problems that I refuse to deal with. I haven't yet attracted the kind of guy I feel I deserve to be with, so I know I'm doing something wrong.

I do that all the time when I meet a guy I feel that I am comparing him w/ my ex, that can be bad. You need to realize you may pass up the good guy/gal because you keep falling in that same trap, try looking for new thing's in that person sometimes it could be hard especially if you loved that person.but keep an open mind. good-luck

Are you referring to male and females or the same type of personality, looks in general.
I think that most human beings are attracted to the same type of person that they are, were raised like,, etc.
For example: You don't see a guy who likes country music ,,,befriend,,, a guy who has tatoo's and earrings all over his body.
Nor, do u see a girl who like her guy dressed in Polo...choose a guy who is wearing slouchy t-shirts, dirty teeny shoes, and a ballcap....

My second boyfriend (this was about 8 years ago) set the bar. But, no one ever seemed to measure up, so I just started to settle. And yes, they all looked different, had completely different interests and personalities....... But, guess what, 8 years later he showed up at my doorstep telling me the same thing. Now, we are together and extremely happy.
