To lose a pound per week you need to burn 3500 calories in that week, so let's say you usually eat 1700 calories a day and don't exercise, if you cut 300 calories a day and burn 200 more a day, you will lose one pound in that week. Same goes for weight gain, eating 3500 more calories will add one pound to your weight.

3500 calories burned or added = one pound either way.

So figure what you eat for the day and calculate a way to cut 3500 calories per week for that one pound. If you go on an exercise chart it should tell you what activity burns how many calories per hour or so. Good luck!

In order to lose a pound in one week, you need to create a 3,500-calorie deficit; in other words, you need to burn off 3,500 more calories than you eat. over the course of a week, you may cut 250 calories per day by switching from mayo to mustard on your sandwich at lunch and snacking on light yogurt instead of Fruit-on-the-Bottom. Meanwhile, you could burn an extra 250 calories a day through exercise, but how much you exercise it takes you to burn those calories off depends on your current weight and fitness level.

My advice: don't worry so much about the math. It's too hard to figure out *exactly* how many calories you're burning during your workouts, and it will constantly change as you lose. Generally, if you reduce your caloric intake to 1300 - 1400 calories (never go below 1200, no matter what) and exercise for 30-40 minutes, 4-5 times per week (anything that gets your heart pumping: walking, running, biking, whatever), you'll see results. Muscle tissue burns more calories, so muscle mass is a key factor in weight loss--be sure to include weight lifting in your routine.

People who plan their weekly meals tend to be successful at losing weight than individuals who don’t. Plan your dishes to incorporate healthy carbs such as lovely potato and wholegrain pasta, greens and lean proteins, buy all of the ingredients in advance and don’t be tempted to nibble on out or order in.

Suck the idea in. Consciously hold in and contract your stomach muscles while you’re walking, sitting at your desk or making the an evening meal. This will help to strengthen your abdominal muscles and your core, and create for you one step closer to some sort of flatter stomach.
