computer says no

The computer can be a very useful educational tool as well as provide endless hours of entertainment. I think that if you allow your daughter access to a computer (which she no doubt already has at friends houses and at her school library) then you need to become knowledgeable about parental controls that are available on your computer and put them into use. You can block her access from any site that you feel is inappropriate. I do not feel that a 15 year old female should be left unsupervised while in a chat room or any other place that she might be approached by undesirable characters. However, with some good preparation on your part, you can make your computer as safe as any other place you would let her go unsupervised. Just do your homework first.

The internet is a splendid thing and to deprive your child of that learning experience would be a tragedy. There are some things to consider, however. There is a lot to be said for being a responsible parent. Do your part! Try putting the computer in a "public" area of your home where her actions will be obvious to everyone in the house. Use those parental controls to help when she might be home alone. Above all, let her know that you trust her to the extent of her ability to overcome temptation. Children make mistakes as we adults do, but if we can help them by not allowing the temptations in, so much the better.

Yes, definetly. The only reason you shouldnt is if you have not taught her that meeting people in person she has met over the internet is extremely dangerous and she shouldnt even think about it. What harm can come apart from that? She can only learn more about the things she is interested in and have fun chatting or playing games. It cannot harm her. She's turning into a woman so she needs to be trusted otherwise she will not be able to grow into her own person.

Do you mean she wants a pc? I think you should. I have once since I was 12 and 3 quarters, and though I have played games and this and that, it has never really hampered my studies. But I think you should not give her complete authority over it. The idea is that it should be like your own pc, where she is allowed to play and do other things at your permission.

If you want to further communication, you may contact at my email address.

What are you asking? Does she want to use the computer to surf web sites, read comic strips, and play games?

Why not? If, of course, you behave like a parent and add blocks to some of the wrong sites for her, monitor what she's doing, and keep an open mind while discussing what she wants view and why.

She's not going to learn proper computer behavior unless you are there beside her, explaining your reasons why she can or cannot visit certain sites or post personal information.

It depends on why she wants on the pc. If its to hang out at chat rooms etc, i'd say no. Regardless of what anyone says, there are alot of predators out there. It's up to you to monitor how she uses the pc. #1 priority is not to let her be a victim. Hope this helps and best of luck...Kristy C.

Yeah let her on the pc, why not? My mum let me on when i was 13 but only for an hour a day.
Now i just turned 16 and she lets me on 2 hours a day when its school days, but now its the summer and i'm allowed on as many hours as i like. which is great :P

Wrong question!!

The real question is why the heck isnt she already on the PC, learning how to type, learning about computers, doing her homework, researching school projects........???

Hit the parental controls if you must, but the girl needs to be able to use a PC.

You should because having her own pc will make her learn about responsibilty of makin the right and wrong but she will start to learn about having so much privacy that u shouldn't get in
