Yes they should have rules and chores for the women to do. They also need to teach them how to be self sufficient. I dont think they should be allowed to use staff computers. Too easy to get into someone elses information that way. If they want to use a computer...they can go to the public library.

Yes a women's shelter should have rules and chores. Women need to have positive structure in their lives when going there and need to feel helpful as well as safe.
No they should not be allowed to use staff computers. These computers have personal info on clients and no besides staff should have access to those files. Besides most women that go to a shelter are coming out of an abusive relationship and out of a warped sense of obligation will try to contact someone that will tell the abuser where they are at and that will defeat the purpose of them being there.

of course they should require clients to do chores. The idea of a women's shelter is a safe venue for abused women of one form or another. Yet, if they don't do whatever simple chores that the management adopt, the women will become unactive beyond their circomstances. Chores make them take responsibilty shelter rewards with a safety they have . They should not use the staff computers on their own. The staff should determine the computer's use and they themselves should use the computers on the residents's behalf.

I think that they should have rules and chores after all they are living there and they should help to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the shelter. I think that maybe they should be able to use the computer if they are job searching not if they just want to catch up on Yahoo Answers.

Some form of patterns is comforting to the soul. Yes, they should have responsibilities to keep the place functioning for all.

Computers is another matter. That is a decision made by corporate rules that fund the computers. It would be nice to be able to look up information on a job for the future.

me my mother and my sister had to live in one a few years ago and thought they were friendly, no-one was to go in the staff office at any time without a carer with them, and yes they had a roster where the women had a different room each day that they made sure was clean.

this made it easy to live there and that way the women started to get back into a sense of normality instead of sitting around feeling sorry for themselves.

some of the carers were also trained counselers and helped the women overcome what happened to them and start afresh. this was great it really helped.

Most of the shelters operate on a shoestring budget and you are looking for maid service, no accountability for your actions AND a free computer? It is easy to see what landed you there in the first place......

Why do you ask? Shouldnt any place a person live have some kind of responsibility to keep it livable and pleasant? There are no such things as Brownies, Sweetie. No little elf things are going to wash the dishes and take the trash out. (I agree with Jenny).

I think rules and chores, but no computer.

I also think they ought to be able to have a lot of time to be themselves. And have classes on how to cooperate with each other.
