First of all, anyone who uses wikipedia (a source of known inaccuracies where anyone can edit entries without doing scholarly research) is a moron who is too lazy to think. Second of all, recent reports have shown that the northeast is actually more segregated than the south these days so you may want to look things up before you try to answer something intelligently but failing miserably at it.

I wish yahoo would let you choose "worst answer" in which the person would lose points *looks at KG's answer*, um, what question were you answering?
I do not see my Popeye's comment as offensive, if I would have said, "The only thing I owe you is a quarter for shining my shoes" now that would have been offensive!
I don't about other whites but I sure as hell didn't participate in slavery, I wasn't even alive back then!

It's because they wanted to blame someone for their bad situation here, and who wants to blame themselves??? The only logical choice was the white man.
On another note, MY GODDAMN POPEYES WASN'T CRISPY!!! CHANGE THE FREAKIN OIL ONCE IN A WHILE!!!

I don't know either, but every time I've posed this question to someone of "color" they accuse me of being an ignorant racist, and treat me to a tirade about "the white man's world".
Personally, I come from Irish stock, and they were treated just as poorly as the Africans, doing the same slave labor and getting paid almost next to nothing. I see the difference, but I'm not asking for money to pay for the shitty way my ancestors were treated.
Has anyone else noted that the Africans practiced their own forms of slavery, and that tribes would actually raid neighboring communities to sell their people to the "whites".
I don't believe that anyone really owes reparations to the African American community, because there's a lot more going on than just them, more to deal with than just their whims.
Besides, what gives them so much precedence over the families of the Japanese Internment camps, or the Native Americans, or the victims of the Jewish Holocaust. Shouldn't we give them something, considering the president sent the boats away, sent them back to Germany?

Black people did betray other black people and trick them into slavery, true. However, white people were the actual slave owners. Dont you see anything wrong with that?
Affermitave action is in place because, believe it or not, many black people are still effected by the American history of slavery and prejudice. Do you think all those black people in the ghetto are just there because they are lazy? No, they are there because of the prejudice country that America has been. And even though it wasnt you or me that put them there, they are there now and the responsible thing to do is give them a hand out of the gutter that some of our racist ancestors put them in.

Wow! Yes, the Africans sold their own people into slavery but that most likely was because there was a market for it. Pardon the economic term for human beings. But if there wasn't anyone buying, there wouldn't be anyone selling.
And furthermore - good white people as you say didn't have to buy the Africans. They had indentured servants that came from their own "white' nations.
I agree that most people today have nothing to do with slavery - but history is hard to forget and sometimes shouldn't be forgotten. The only thing you or I owe anyone is respect if they have earned it...on a one on one basis.

A lot of this comes from the younger kids. And if you talk to the Older Blacks they are very upset with the way they act. Slavery happened we can not change that. Was it wrong.. YES.. no one should be treated like that. But Blacks people need to get over it and move on. But you always have that percentage that will always want to cry about it. Even when they did not have to go through it.

Personally your comments are as ignorant as your question. First step try researching the origins of slavery and how it came to be in all societies and even at different periods of time. Not all were sold some were captured and brought against their will. Right now your entire question feeds into the racism, stereotypes and ugliness that exist in the world today and it is real sad.

LOL - I dated a black guy for years and at one point I flat out asked him and he said "I have no ******* idea, it doesn't make sense to me either". I've always wanted a real explaination.
I guess it's just easier to play the victim, ***** and get free crap when the rest of us have to work our asses off for a living.
I totally agree with you. I mean wtf dude, this happened way before my mom was even born so why the **** am I being blamed for **** that happened when I wasn't even around.
LOL people are so ******* stupid these days. I just blame it on class, not on race. I mean the intelligent blacks don't ***** about it. This is what seperates the morons from the rest of the world.
Btw, you might owe them a popyese biscuit but I don't owe them a goddamn thing. My fn tax dollars are paying for their ******* foodstamps.
Hey one more thing, whey do they get a whole freakin month? Why don't I get a month huh? I mean I'm Irish, as most American's are, why can't we have an Irish-American history month? Oh hey, we could have a Native American History month and talk about how we stole their land....
Have fun. Lemme know if you find a better answer...

That was then and this is now . You can't go back and correct history . If you could , this world would be different today . In those days they didn't think as we do now . The slave owners saw nothing wrong with what they were doing . It has been that way down through time . Generation after generation evolved and people began to see that it was wrong to own each other .

Yes I know what you mean. I live in South Carolina and we hear that crap all the time. As far as I know no one presently living was around then so NONE of us are responsible for anything that occurred then. In fact, I believe that it is the Constitution (I may be wrong it could be another document) that says that a person is not judged or held responsible for the activities of their ancestors. And as far as the origins of slavery, wasn't it the Spanish that started it here in the New World? Just another thing to get free money and cause problems

Are you really this stupid or is it an act??? I hate to burst your bubble but Archie Bunker was funny during the 70s. Today, he and you just make the rest of use go "Hmmm?".
PS: Can you send my $5.95 via Paypal???? After all, I don't work at Popeye's nor do I have any connections. I am an attorney. Also, being that you call yourself a Christian you might want to review that part in the Bible where God says that he created man "in his own image". You are insulting prized creations of God. I don't think this will get you a lot of points in your quest to get to heaven.

Well, for starters, many years ago in Africa, white men arrived on their pretty boats and took on "traitor" blacks to work for them. Many blacks today are still stuck on the "whitey stole us and made us slaves" bit wothout looking at the big picture. While the "traitors" were frequently the ones to take new slaves in, they did so because they were familiar with the tribes, customs, etc of the region they were working for the white men. The "traitors" were usually paid in goods (food, tools, a good lay) for their services. It was the WHITE men who then sold the captured as slaves. The blacks who took the other blacks for slave labour were only doing their job as given by White ppl.
