What you're really asking is for the best CURRENT musical, right? Some of my favorites are still out there but the lead actors that made them famous have moved on to better things. For example, I say Lion King this past May - for the 4th time - and I noticed it had really lost its zing and power musically.

Currently, I would head to Wicked.

Most stuff actually ON broadway is pretty high quality - everything I've seen with the exception of Lion King 06 has been superb.

Good luck and enjoy the experience!

Chorus Line as I lived and breathed and danced the life of many of the characters of Chorus Line. Having lived the life it was like sitting around with a bunch of my Broadway friends discussing our lives (which was what Fosse wanted). I was probably the only one in the original audiences crying throughout the show. The song "NOTHING" was MY song....I lived a version of it.

The Man of La Mancha.
The story of Don Quixote and his faithful squire in exploits known only to the eccentric, noble mind of Quixote. A story of love, loss, and a conquering good. Source of many popular songs such as The Impossible Dreamand Dulcinea.

I'm back and forth between Jekyll & Hyde and Phantom of the Opera. The music to both is incredible.

See Drowsy Chaperone. It won so many Tonys and Drama Desks and not many people see it. Tickets are easy to get and are relatively cheap. The cast is amazing; it's funny and great music.

Les Miserable is the best show ever written!!!! I go and see it anytime I possibly can. It will make you laugh, and it will make you cry. If you can sit up close and see the actors' expressions, it will enhance the experience!

Guys and Dolls... absolutely amazing. I don't think it's been on broadway for awhile, but it remains a classic.

While I was excited and loved WICKED so much and still do, over all LES MISERABLES is still number one in my opinion. Les Mis has absolutely everything and is timeless. Both books are must read.
