No, it's the "keeping up with the Jone's" attitude. It really irritates me to see it. You know full well, some of these women will never take the vehicle off road...or live in an area that it is just ridiculous to have a truck at all.
They think they look pretty or something sitting up in their "I'm better than you" ATV. It must be a power trip, but in a town that I'm very familar with that is notorious for these people.....it's all a statis thing.

As a woman I refuse to drive anything that I can't parallel park! If you don't actually go off road it's stupid. In fact with cu rent gas prices it's stupid anyway. I bought a van because I had four boys to drive around and now that they're all driving themselves I've tried to sell it but because of the gas situation and its size nobody seems to want it and I can't seem to give the darn thing away! *ding* That's what I should do! Donate to a church or some other organization. My kids have always called it the "church bus" anyway because it's a full size, long wheel base model. Don't know if I answered your question but I solved my own problem! *laugh*
Actually, a lot of my friends husband have come home and presented their wives with these big honkin' vehicles because the think their wives and kids ARE safer in them, but a lot of these women are intimidated just trying to park them in tight situations, maneuver them in garages, during rush hour, etc. Frankly, I don't think an intimidated driver is a safe driver.
Then you have the flip side... "I'm bigger and badder that everything else on the road." Definitely NOT A SAFE DRIVER!

I drive a 4x4 pick-up. Not for the safety or to keep up with the Jones', but because I like that it sits up higher. I drive a tractor trailer, and to get into a small car after driving a big truck I feel like I'm going to scrape my butt on the ground if I hit a bump. For me it's a better transition from a big truck.

Women have the mis-conception that size protects them when they get into an accident. The best way to protect yourself is to drive defensivly and not talk on the cell phone while driving! Its not uncommon here to see everyone in the car talking on cell phones, how rude is my reaction, and you see they are driving eratically too.
