Humans, in general, just seem to accept circumstance...perhaps it's fear, perhaps it's apathy, alot of it is not being educated on the facts. They don't realize that they have power over the circumstance...I completely agree with you...some sort of a boycott or protest would at least show that we are not accepting this quietly...

people are going faster because they think they will get there faster and use less fuel but they are wrong they will use more. the reason people are not using other means of transportation is because in lots of places like where i live public transportation really really sucks it is never on time and half the time it is not even running so here we have to drive there is no other choice also must of us live more then 10 miles from where we work so walking and bike are out of the question. it really sucks i would live to be able to take a bus to work but there are not any that go that way at the times i need to go to work

Not filling up on Sundayz is a good place to start. If everyone drove just 1 less mile a day...that would drive the price of gas down almost 70 cents a gallon.

Until the average American can afford an alternative fuel vehicle, they will continue using gas-powered cars. Even still, it has been shown that hybrids aren't as cost-efficient as advertised. Their higher prices offset the savings in fuel. It will take an average of 8yrs to recover the cost of the car.
Show me a reliable solar powered or corn oil powered car that's cost effective (i.e. the savings offset the cost) and I'll gladly buy one. As it is now, I'm carpooling whenever I can and using my cruise control to keep my at just 5mph's over the speed limit.

i read before that a nationwide boycott fo just ONE DAY would cause a huge difference (just refuel the day before or day after)......
here's the email a friend sent me:
This is worth a shot, if everyone would actually do it. Mark your calendars for September 1st - no gas!
IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA
DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME
TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.
AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF
OVER 4.6 BILLION ! DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL
COMPANIES.
THEREFORE SEPTEMBER 1st HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT TO THEM "
DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THESE TWO NATIONS SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF
GASOLINE THAT DAY.
THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY
PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.
WAITING ON THE GOVERNMENT TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT
GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES
THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?
REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT
THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING
COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON
EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING
MATERIALS, MEDICAL
SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY,
WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.
SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU
KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE SEPTEMBER 1ST A DAY THAT THE
CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

Pathos. During the "GAS CRISIS" of the 70's people cared enough to fight back. Today, they just don't care and go on like sheep accepting whatever comes their way.

It's a wonderful idea, however, it would involve many people to undergo a rather dramatic life-style change. It's hard enough to get people to recycle, much less change their mode of transportation.
