You didn't mention what your boyfriend felt about the situation. Since it's HIS brother, I would tell your boyfriend that he needs to "man up" and tell his brother to start packing and head to mom's house. Obviously she knows how irresponsible he is that he can't afford to pay his own rent, which is why she doesn't want to offer to put him up at her place.

You need to put your foot down. If this truly is a problem, then maybe you should move out and send a message to your boyfriend. He is enabling this guy to be lazy, and that's not very healthy. Not to mention the undo strain I am sure it is putting on your relationship.

You can also go to court and have him evicted. Check the laws in your area.

You can try a more compassionate approach as well, have him sign a contract that states he will actively seek employment, take him to job interviews or to the bus line so he has transportation. give him 30 days to find a job, and 60 days after he finds a job to vacate the premises. Otherwise, in thirty days, he gets the boot. If he refuses to sign the contract, toss him out then.

And the next time you talk to his mother(although it would be better if your boyfriend talked to her directly), tell her that if she wants to take care of her irresponsible son, she can pay his rent for him all she wants to ....SOMEPLACE ELSE. This is your home and since her name isn't on the lease she has no right telling you who can stay and who can go. Simple as that.

uh... just tell your mother-in-law that while its fine she gave him rent money - you never saw any of it and unless her lazya** son gets the money to you by a certain day he's getting his a** thrown out. Tell your boyfriend to get a set of ba**s. You shouldn't have to worry about it. Besides she's not your in-law until you're legally (in law) married to her son.

Is it four of you living together or does your MIL live somewhere else? If she doesn't live with you, tell her that she can take in your boyfriend's brother. But uh, if he's your boyfriend, she can't be your mother-in-law quite yet... so I don't really know... sounds like a f*cked up family if you ask me.
