Generally speaking, in most cases it is the intentions. The christian is seeking to do good work in these countries yes, but they are also seeking converts. As in Iraq, a very, very muslim country, the Evangelicals just erected a church. My question is for who? Them or the Iraqis? I agree that the christians speak out against many laws, but not all of them are "cruel". Beyond that they also try to instill laws that are based soley around the idea of protecting me from myself. Remember, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Wrong mi amigo
Nobody gets mad at Christians because they do good -no strings attached -humanitarian deeds.
People get mad at Christians for some very good reasons. The primary one that ticks ever body off is their need to foist their particular version of the world on everyone else. . The are not satisfied that they believe in what they believe in . They want others to respect their beliefs and they claim to respect other beliefs but its so damned condescending and arrogant that you almost want to puke in response. They honestly and truly believe that their way is morally superior and they want to enact into law their beliefs and it's wrong.
The fact that GWB is both President of the United States and the Defender of the Faith makes it scary. This is not what the Founding Fathers had in mind.
If you are a true believer then by all means do what you think is right. but in the process you cannot impede others from making the choices that they believe are right.. To do so makes you a bully and everyone hates bullies

Christians are "bashed" not because of all their good deeds in the world. Obviously that would be a pointless reason. It's because many fundamentalist faiths shove their religion in the face of anyone outside of their faith (even other denominations), thus needlessly provoking people, and only stirring up trouble. Sometimes people just don't realize how a good argument works, or how to convince someone else about something. They've tried saying "Oh, I'll pray for you because you chose Hell over Jesus' love", but how is that suddenly going to convice someone to believe in anything that such a person would say? If Christians want to be respected, the less fundamental and well-spoken need to step out of the closet and overcome the stereotypical images placed upon us by those who ruin the idea of openmindedness. We need to educate and defend, I continue to say, because anything else doesn't seem to get across the message in the least.

You're right but you got to remember the long history of Christians. I'm sorry but the history, or a lot of it, is splattered in bloodshed. Just look at the Crusades and that. Unfortunately, other people have long to forget that and a reputation sticks with you. Even if you do good things now, the bad things are harder to unstick from the memory. Christians are not perfect, and as one, I know. We're still people and we make mistakes. And if other people are blaming us, that's a shame. I also think it's easier to put the blame on Christians since it's a widespread popular religion, second in the world.

you speak of all the good works done by christians, as if they're the only ones doing good works. people of all walks of life and all religions--or lack thereof!--volunteer, mentor, speak out against cruel laws, and risk their lives to help save people in other countries. being a christian doesn't make your work any more important than that done by a jew, muslim, hindu, pagan, or atheist.

they don't get the blame "for no reason," they get the blame for the things they do. they promote bigotry, force their beliefs down the throats of others. they kill and judge people in the name of their beliefs. they try turning governments into theocracies. are they the only ones doing so? no. are they all doing so? no. but they do it, and people are going to point it out.

i find it interesting that this question would be asked when it's so easy to pose the question, "why do christians blame everyone else all the time?"

What is it, exactly, that you think you are being blamed for? I see stories of priests and ministers raping little children or stealing from their own congregations or hiring hookers, and to me they're just criminals getting what they deserve--except that, as Christians claiming to be instructed by the Holy Spirit, they shouldn't be doing such heinous things and I wonder where the HS is when children are being molested in their own churches. Maybe, what YOU see as persecution, is merely the rest of us wondering why all of you are no better than anyone else, in spite of the alleged guidance of your omni-whatever deity.

So, let's put this so-called "persecution" into perspective. There are churches in every third neighborhood, you can go to any of them any time you like, in the open, without having to meet in secret places for fear of the government throwing you in jail. There are stores devoted exclusively to Christian books, music, and gifts. You have an entire freakin' TV station--Trinity Broadcasting Network--that's all about YOU and YOUR beliefs, and many other stations also broadcast services on Sunday mornings. You are not prohibited from attending school, holding a job, joining a union, writing a book, having children, or running for public office on account of your beliefs. There are thousands of websites devoted to Christianity. In some cities (I used to live in one), preachers can preach on street corners. Jehovah's Witnesses legally can go door-to-door proselytizing. You can hand out religious tracts in public and not get arrested. Now, someone please tell me--how does all of this translate into persecution?? If that is your idea of persecution, then you lead a sheltered life, indeed.

Hey, maybe that's why people get angry at Christians--because they're always whining, "Poor, pitiful me, I'm being persectuted," when they don't even know what that word means. What you REALLY mean is, "I don't like it when my beliefs are questioned and I am asked to prove that my god is real, or when people make fun of me for believing in Jesus." I don't care how much humanitarian work you do, if you believe in a cosmic Santa Claus, I'm going to question you until you come up with logical answers.

People are angry with us Christians because of the aggressiveness, judgmental attitude, and hypocrisy expressed by so many.

I agree with what you are saying.

Christians do an amazing amount of good in every American community and throughout the world. Homeless shelters, food banks, building houses; the list is endless.

Maybe we should emphasize these actions as a way to "Let (our) light shine before others."

Perhaps acts of compassion and love such as these and the ones you mentioned will bring people to an understanding of what a beautiful faith Christianity is, and how it inspires us to make the world a better place.

Well I am not a christian or I don.t clam to be.But I don't blame the people that are for the way they feel. Through out time the Christians have been singled out for one reason or other. And it just ain't fair!! If someone including my gets sick or in trouble why is the first one we turn to its GOD And when ever thing is goin good then most people don't need him. Although i don't go to church I do believe in god and Jesus. Their haves to be a grater power than MEN. But to answer you question its because of all the things people do is why you are treated different and that's just a SHAME!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree Christians do do a lot of incredible work. Did you know for example that 90% of rebuilding in New Orleans is being done by the Church?

However, ask a better question, like "How can others see the work done by Christians as positive instead of threatening?" Asking the question you're asking will most of the time result in a negative response.

Christ said it was going to be hard for the believer. He was right about everything. The world is no different now than it was then. Heck, even many of the followers of Christ screamed "Crucify him". The problem hence lies with the Wolf in Sheep's clothing. Many claim to be Christian, who do terrible things. Many Christians are VERY kind. Jesus told us to be wary of these people. The true Christians can tell the difference, the rest of the world can not see & get sucked into their corruption.
