I've heard that White German Shepherds are especially fond of small game animals- birds, squirrels, etc. Would they be best for detecting the presence of snakes on your yard? I have had snakes on my yard because I live very close to a creek.

A mongoose would be better. But terriers (Parsons, rat, etc.) were bred to hunt rodents and are very adept at sniffing them out and either going into the rat holes or digging them out. Teaching them to find snake holes shouldn't be too difficult.

most of your terriers are great for that, we had one and when found a snake it would grab it behind its head and shake it then let go , then do it all over again
