we don't think that the things themselves are evil [i'm christian and i enjoy harry potter and lord of the rings, so please stop making assumptions]. however, it's the origins of harry potter and wizard of oz and stuff like that that is evil. witchcraft is a sin and shouldn't be taken lightly. i enjoy harry potter, i read three of the books then lost interest. but, i have seen some extremely detrimental effects that these books have had on people so don't make the mistake of seperating an origin from product. they both have the same poison in it, just one is toned down.

My reason for not getting into such movies/books (even though I know they are fake) is that it clouds the mind. I try to live my life as best I can, like Jesus lived. I doubt you'd see him at a Harry Potter movie. But also those kind of movies can open your mind to actually try out the things they are suggesting. Yes, Harry's magic isn't real, but it glorifies witches, and makes you more open to the idea in later life. Children have actually written fan letters saying they want to be witches when they grow up. I would rather stay on God's side of truth, than fill my mind with faith-damaging (sp?) ideas.

First of all harry potter teaches you witchcraft. Second of all witchcraft goes against God's word. Whether you believe it or not these stories influence some people to do witchcraft and other evil.

As far as the Lord of the Rings goes, it was written by J.R.R. Tolkein who was a devout practicing Christian who also was good friends with C.S. Lewis who wrote The Chronicles of Narnia and many other nonfiction works about Christianity, so as far as LOTRs goes, most Christians _should_ like it, unless they just don't find it aesthetically pleasing.

First of all why not be truthful? Why shouldn't we just tell and live by truth rather than lies. Second of all look at what is going on in those films- nothing but evil. Does it make you afraid? Hair stand up? We need to spread truth and light. Not lies and darkness.

it's not make believe, there really are witches, and if a child sees that and really wants to do that, they will find the way to becoming a witch.

It's not hard, any library has books on witchcraft.

Thats why it's so bad. It's reality.

The greatest fear is that young impressionable minds will be drawn to something that is actually real and that is the occult.
As long as we remember that these are fictional accounts I see no problem.

They believe it glorifies a dark practice. That children will want to know more about witchcraft and be turned to Satan. It's silly I know. (Especially since they supported Narnia)
